Description
~ The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, now in its 12th year, connects more than 90 of the world’s greatest cities which have committed to tackling climate change. ~
We bring mayors from around the world together to learn from each other in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating resilient, sustainable and low carbon cities. C40 cities represent more than 650 million urban citizens and their economies account for 25% of global GDP. Our recent ‘Deadline 2020’ report sets out the critical role that the world’s major cities have to play in delivering the historic Paris Agreement to prevent catastrophic climate change.
C40’s growing team of 100+ staff is headquartered in London, with offices in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Beijing and Paris, and individual staff based across 25+ different locations. C40 has an operating budget of c.$25m per year and is primarily funded through the generous support of philanthropic foundations.
The strategic direction of the organization is determined by an elected Steering Committee of C40 mayors, which is chaired by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. Three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the Board of Directors, which is responsible for operational oversight. An eight person management team, led by Executive Director, Mark Watts, leads the day-to-day management of C40.
Measurement and Planning
C40’s Measurement and Planning programme focuses on building capacity within C40 cities to tackle climate change. Specifically, to:
- Measure GHG emissions in a robust and consistent way
- Set evidence-based GHG emissions reduction target(s)
- Develop a robust climate action plan in line with the ambitions of the Paris Agreement
This is achieved by developing standards, processes, and tools; providing access to training and technical support; and facilitating knowledge transfer and peer-to-peer exchange.
Position Overview
The Data Analyst will lead the compilation and analysis of important datasets associated with city GHG emissions and support the Head of Modelling with inventory development and scenario modelling tools.
A key part of the role with involve facilitating the sharing and use of city GHG data both across C40 internally as well as externally to cities and public audiences in order to accelerate data-driven action on climate change. The role will involve coordinating with colleagues and cities to identify demand for particular data sets and designing data management and dissemination systems.
The Data Analyst will report to the Head of Modeling. This is a Fixed Term Contract until December 2019.
Responsibilities
The Data Analyst will be responsible for a number of activities:
- Maintain and enhance C40 GPC greenhouse gas emissions dashboards, and develop additional dashboard for internal and external use (including activity data dashboard);
- Prepare a series of default and proxy datasheets to facilitate city GPC greenhouse gas inventory development (e.g. an emission factors database);
- Manage database containing information on city inventories, targets and action plans;
- Support the Head of Modelling to develop and maintain a suite of tools to measure and forecast greenhouse gas emissions at city-wide, sector and action-level;
- Support technical assistance programme management and coordination across C40 by developing outputs and dashboards to communicate city support status and progress; and
- Other duties as required to support the objectives of the team.
Qualifications
Person Specification:
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities, with advanced MS Excel and data management skills;
- Strong interpersonal, relationship building and written and verbal communication skills, combined with English fluency;
- International experience, working across different cultures, languages and time zones;
- Proactive and well organized;
- Strong English language skills, both written and verbal; and
- Passionate about cities, climate change and data-driven climate action.
Other Requirements:
- Applicants must already have the right to work in the United Kingdom or the United States of America; and
- Some travel may be required.
Compensation: £32,365 / $47,797 per annum
