~ Take a Walk on the Wild Side at DeGraaf Nature Center. ~
You don't need to drive out of town to get in touch with nature. If you have 20 minutes or 2 hours, you will enjoy exploring the woodland, shrub, marsh and pond trails of this 18 acre nature preserve located within the city limits of Holland. The Brower Interpretive Center is brimming with informative and hands-on displays and live animal exhibits. So don't leave town. Come to DeGraaf Nature Center any time of the year to reconnect with nature.
Position Overview
West Michigan is rich in wooded dunes, lakes and wildlife and is an ideal place to teach many environmental concepts. Naturalist-interns become part of an on-going environmental education program that serves area schools and the general public. Weekend lectures, field trips, natural history walks and special events for the general public are also provided. Position starts in early May and is 26 - 28 hours per week.Training and supervision provided.
Responsibilities
- Interns will teach, plan and implement programs and classes.
- A project dealing with wildlife, conservation or a subject that the intern is familiar with is also expected.
- Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the operation of a community nature center; budgets, staffing and maintenance.
Qualifications
- College student or graduate with significant coursework in biology, natural resources, environmental education, fisheries and wildlife, outdoor recreation or a related field.
- A strong interest in teaching a variety of people about natural history and the environment is required.
Compensation: Pay is $10 per hour. Housing and utilities provided in a historic 1870's farmhouse.
