Position Overview
New Ecology is seeking candidates for the position of Regional Manager-Maryland. The Regional Manager is responsible for managing the operations of a start-up New Ecology office in Maryland. The core work is providing energy efficiency and green building services that cost-effectively improve the performance, health and durability of buildings.
Our clients are typically owners of multifamily housing, (with an emphasis on affordable housing) and owners of community-based projects such as municipal, educational and arts buildings.
Projects include buildings that are being newly constructed, renovated, or are just seeking improved performance. We also provide services that improve the performance and reduce the costs of operating real estate portfolios, such as remote monitoring, equipment optimizations, and data analysis.
The successful candidate will have management expertise in marketing, customer relations, and staff management, and technical competency in green building, energy efficiency, and/or construction management. The operation will be closely affiliated with and supported by NEI's Boston headquarters.
Responsibilities
The Regional Manager's duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Adapting the New Ecology business model to a new location and coordinating with New Ecology's Boston headquarters.
- Building a client base by cultivating relationships with building owners, state housing officials, financing agencies, utilities, trade organizations and others.
- Managing project managers who will be responsible for the direct delivery of services to clients.
- Recruiting and managing a staff capable of providing high quality green building and energy efficiency services.
- Setting up a new office and being responsible for the successful, bottom line management of the office.
- Participating in the development of a national network of providers of similar services, in conjunction with Elevate Energy and our partner organizations.
Qualifications
New Ecology typically seeks to hire multidisciplinary, lifelong learners who naturally seek deeper and deeper understanding of how buildings operate, how finances, markets and regulations affect building ownership, and how this understanding can be used to convince owners and operators to adapt greener practices.
The ideal candidate:
- Is committed to a career in the development of the entrepreneurial non-profit sector of the economy;
- Enjoys leading a team of professionals and is more concerned with the outcome than personal accolades;
- Has the personality, drive and communications skills needed to develop and maintain relationships with demanding customers;
- Prefers to work with one foot in operations and the other in management;
- Can translate the issues encountered in the field into effective operations and business development strategies;
- Thrives on finding solutions to difficult problems and breaking new ground in a developing business sector;
- Has technical knowledge of green building and/or building systems. This might include experience in:
- building operations;
- construction management;
- project development;
- formal training in building science;
- LEED accreditation, energy auditing or building ratings; and
- CEM or BPI certification;
- and related experience including:
- project, financial and personnel management;
- selecting and managing contractors;
- securing grants and rebates for clients, and
- managing quality control and M&V efforts;
- Has a master's degree in an appropriate field or equivalent experience; and
- Has a valid driver's license.
Note: The candidate should be prepared for increased responsibility in a rapidly growing company. Frequent travel to Boston and periodic overnight travel elsewhere is required.
