Position Overview

We are seeking candidates for a Toxics Campaign Internship with Greenpeace in Fall 2014, in Washington D.C.

Our Toxics team is dedicated to ensuring a toxic free future by pressuring congress to stand up against the chemical industry. This semester we'll be working on passing comprehensive chemical security legislation, to address the danger posed by over 5800 "high-risk" chemical facilities in the United States. Just the 300 most dangerous of these plants threaten 100 million Americans.

Responsibilities 

  • Research on chemical security, including occasional visits to the EPA Docket Center.
  • Research and analysis of EPA policies.
  • Attend and assist with lobby meetings and events on Capitol Hill.
  • Work with communications team for press and online communication needs.
  • Draft letters to decision makers.
  • Write blog entries.
  • Engage with a broad coalition of groups working on this issue.
  • Assisting in additional projects as needed. 

Qualifications 

  • Completion of bachelor's degree preferred. Ideal candidates will be those pursuing a master's degree or a law degree.
  • Experience with campaigning and organizing a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong online research skills.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Computer savvy.
  • Comfortable on the phone.
  • Commitment to non-violence as a means of affecting change.
  • Enthusiasm for protecting the environment.

Program Details 

  • Our fall internships start September 8th and end December 5th.
  • Part time and full time positions available.
  • Each intern is trained and closely supervised by a member of the department to which they've been assigned.
  • We are flexible with your schedule and can help you receive class credit.
  • All internships are unpaid.
