Position Overview:

The Assistant to the Director of the Climate Law Institute (Climate Associate) is responsible for providing administrative and program support to the Director, as well as drafting a wide range of climate related communications and interacting with the media, local, state, and federal agencies, other environmental organizations and the public.  Some travel is required.  This position requires a high degree of professionalism, self-motivation and drive, and ability to work seamlessly with the Director.

Responsibilities:

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director with all aspects of Climate Law Institute administration, including:
    • Arranging meetings of staff, external colleagues, and Institute Advisory board
    • Handling internal and external communications and coordination regarding Institute business.
    • Assisting the Director with personnel management and coordination
    • Handling personnel-related matters including communications with job and internship applicants; assisting with interviews; conducting orientations; handling passwords, subscriptions, and equipment needs; and otherwise coordinating and handling administrative needs
    • Responding to correspondence for the Director
    • Handling and assisting with travel and conference arrangements
    • Assisting the Director with fundraising communications
  • Assist the Director with all aspects of program work and litigation, including:
    • Assisting with the preparation of administrative and legal documents, as well as publications and other communications, including drafting, research, proofreading/copy editing and other tasks
    • Providing paralegal support to the Director and other senior staff, including cite checking, completing TOC/TOA, proofreading, formatting, filing documents, maintening electronic passwords, corresponding with clerks' offices, etc.
    • Maintaining literature database of scientific and other articles

Communications Responsibilities: 

  •  
    • Drafting and distributing communications relating to Institute campaigns, including but not limited to press releases, Web pages, newsletter articles, opinion pieces, and action alerts
    • Increasing cutting edge internet communications including through social networking sites, commenting on news articles and blogs, utilizing google news comments, soliciting space on and contributing to popular online venues, etc.
    • Coordinating events (press conferences, rallies, protests, hearings, etc.) and event preparation, including working with our own staff, external colleagues, volunteers, and the public.
    • Maintaining the media database.
    • Assisting with sign-on letters, petitions, and other group communications.
    • Conducting editorial campaigns and other outreach to journalists.
