Description
Wellington is New Zealand's capital city and the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the highly regarded Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) is located at its heart.
The faculty's landscape architecture program has recently been reconfigured to strengthen its studio core and to take advantage of interdisciplinary opportunities offered by its recent incorporation within the School of Architecture. Our position within the University allows us to access the expertise of some of New Zealand's most prominent academics within the disciplines of Environmental Science (with its focus on climate change, Antarctic research and sustainability in the South Pacific) and Biological Sciences (for ecology, botany and biogeography).
The new program has a distinct urban focus and has positioned itself to engage with a range of issues associated with sustainable urban settlements, both locally and in the South Pacific. Recent student projects have explored climate change associated sea level rise in Wellington as well as issues of sustainable tourism on the island of Niue and urban ecological infrastructure in Suva, Fiji.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a lecturer/senior lecturer to contribute to this dynamic and exciting program. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong interest, experience and achievement in teaching and research in landscape architecture and/or urban design, and an ability to initiate, support and enhance knowledge and skills in design studio.
As part of a team, the appointee will have responsibility for initiating and contributing to curriculum development and pedagogical direction at all levels in the landscape architecture program.
We are also looking for academics or practitioners to visit the school as part of our Visiting Scholar program. This is a highly regarded position offered as a 4 month appointment, which allows scholars to teach in a new and stimulating environment while at the same time undertaking academic research or practice.
