Description
Konarka builds power plastic that converts light to energy - anywhere. The company develops and manufactures light-activated power plastic that is inexpensive, lightweight, flexible and versatile. This material makes it possible for devices, systems and structures to have their own low cost embedded sources of renewable power. By integrating energy generation functionality into everyday devices, Konarka allows manufacturers to offer truly wireless applications.
Konarka Technologies is seeking applicants with experience in printed electronics for emerging photovoltaic technology: The company is building 3rd generation thin film photovoltaics using commercial roll to roll, low cost, high volume processes.
The position requires a broad knowledge and experience base in order to successfully contribute to the scale-up activities of a team of scientists and engineers to develop various printing methods to deposit the various layers that comprise the photovoltaic cells and modules. There will be significant interaction with our overseas scale-up partner to transfer methodologies and evaluate materials being produced on pilot production equipment and technical feedback to the partner will be a key function. The position involves hands-on work in the lab and pilot production equipment to develop best printing method for each layer of the photovoltaic cell.
Responsibilities include:
* Use various printing methods to produce, test, and evaluate organic photovoltaic cells and modules
* Drive correlation of process configurations to product performance
* Perform failure analysis on devices and process development
* Document and communicate results both internally and to our scale-up partners
* Recommend engineering and manufacturing changes to obtain design objectives in the most economical manner possible.
Key Requirements
* MS/PHD Chemical, Electrical, or Materials engineering (concentration on semiconductor materials/polymers desirable)
* Hand on experience in printing electric and or electronic structures.
* Experience in printing methodologies such as gravure, inkjet, Offset etc.
* Knowledge of printing ink formulations related to organic electronics
* Excellent communication skills
* Fluent with MS Word, Excel, as well as higher power data analysis tools
Desired Qualifications: Experience in Dispersion technology; Ink characterization techniques such as rheology, SEM, light scattering; Electrical characterization: conductivity, IV curves, diode failure analysis; Thermal transfer and cure characterization.
