Assistant LEED Certification Architect/Engineer

The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of 6,000 corporate and organizational members that is dedicated to promoting environmentally-responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work is currently seeking an energetic commercial buildings professional with experience and knowledge of the design and construction process and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.

The Assistant LEED Certification Architect/Engineer will work directly with LEED Certification team members guiding and participating in the review of applications for project certification under the LEED Green Building Rating System. This employee will collaborate with senior technical staff, contractors, and project teams to evaluate project documentation, review technical inquiries, and prepare reports and correspondence. 

Responsibilities Include: 

• Facilitate the LEED certification review process including: 
  • Administrative and technical reviews  
  • Edits to draft LEED Certification Reviews 
  • Provide direction to multiple certification review teams 
  • Communication - written and verbal - with project teams 
• Assist with technical reviews of Credit Interpretation Ruling drafts  
• Support product committees with the development of new LEED standards and resources

• Encourage and accelerate global adoption of green building practices through LEED standards, tools and performance criteria  
• Deliver customer service that is professional, timely and targeted to the customer's needs  
• Provide USGBC with technical experience and knowledge as a design professional  
• Streamline LEED certification processes and procedures among consultants and committees  
• Create tools and methods to facilitate communication among both review and project teams, saving time and using resources most effectively

• Bachelors degree in Architecture or Engineering with 2-5 years of professional practice experience  
• 3-5 years experience in building design and construction (siting, envelope, structure)  
• Strong working knowledge of building energy systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing)  
• Thorough understanding of high performance green building design specifically regarding energy modeling, indoor air quality, and material selection  
• LEED Accredited Professional status strongly preferred  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
• Ability to manage multiple projects and teams  
• Energetic, detail-oriented, comfortable handling multiple tasks, able to prioritize  
• Passion for and commitment to USGBC's mission
