Description

The Save-the-Redwoods League, located in San Francisco, was founded in 1918. As a leader of the movement to preserve the coast redwood and giant sequoia, the League has assisted in permanently protecting hundreds of thousands of acres of redwood forestland.

We are seeking an Education Program Manager to join the League's staff. The Education Program Manager is responsible for implementing the League's education program objective which is to assist others in making connections with, appreciating, and promoting the importance and relevance of the redwood forest.

The Education Program Manager works to:

(1) expand and diversify the reach of the League's education program, with a focus on urban and ethnically diverse communities,
(2) develop a strategy for including redwood education in the California state curriculum, (3) create redwood education and interpretive opportunities in association with parks and park interpretive associations, and
(4) administer an education grants program 

This is a full-time exempt position, based in San Francisco that reports to the Conservation and Education Program Director. 

Essential job functions of this position include: 

* Managing the League's education program, including program development, program implementation, annual planning, budgeting, and reporting.
* Developing and implementing an approach to including redwoods as a core component in state curriculum
* Cultivating relationships with key partners including State Department of Education, teachers, parks, interpretive associations, and other educators to leverage and support effective K-12 environmental education programs with a redwood focus.
* Managing the League's education grant program, including administering the annual request for proposal, evaluating the grant program goals and making recommendations for adjustments, and maintaining close relationships with grantees. 
* Providing staff support to the League's Education Committee 
* Overseeing the development, production and use, of education and interpretive presentations about the redwoods and the League, for use by League staff and volunteer leadership
* Making presentations to schools and other interested groups about the work of the League 

Ideal candidates will have: 

* Bachelor's degree (required) 
* Five to seven years experience in developing and managing environmental education programs.
* Knowledge of and contacts with environmental educators at county and state level in California 
* Some grants administration experience 

* Proven Analytical and Problem solving skills including the ability to assemble, assess and organize issues, to conduct analyses, structure solutions and propose and implement recommendations.
* Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Comfortable and skillful presenting information including ecological concepts to general audiences
* Excellent relationship skills Skilled in managing varied relationships and successful at facilitating collaboration, cooperation, coordination
* Proven ability to establish and monitor priorities and work independently 
* Commitment to land conservation and environmental education. Deep appreciation for the natural environment; knowledge of the redwood forest ecosystems is advantageous. 

Other skills and qualifications 

o Experience working with the MS Office suite
o Graphic design sensibility and skills are desirable
o Experienced working in team environments
o Enjoyment of people, good sense of humor
o Commitment to the League's non-confrontational approach to conservation.
