Position Overview
Legal Action Worldwide is seeking candiates for a Legal Advocacy Intern positon. This position reports to our Legal Advisor. The Geneva intern will perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with the objectives and activities mentioned below:
Responsibilities
Overall Responsibilities:
- Raise the profile of LAW in Geneva
- Represent LAW at UN and NGO meeting
- Engage the UN Special Procedures on countries and themes relevant to LA
- Participate in the HRC Sessions and side event
- Assist in the implementation of the global advocacy strateg
- Assist in drafting and implementation of the global and regional communications strateg
- Assist in organising events, roundtables and meeting
- Undertake legal research
Job tasks include
Legal:
- Undertaking substantive legal research for LAW for specific projects or casework and assisting in the development of legal documents
- Attending relevant meetings in Geneva relating to the issues focused on by LAW
Media and fundraising:
- Maintain social media and website
- Assisting in fundraising projects, including by creating a Fundraising Action Plan and developing proposals and applications
- Liaising with media houses
- Assisting with publications of material, eg writing blogs and reports Administrative
- Maintaining and updating LAW's database of women lawyer experts and practitioners
- Organising materials for meetings and minute-taking for Board meetings
- Managing logistical and travel arrangements
Administrative:
- Maintaining and updating LAW's database of women lawyer experts and practitioners
- Organising materials for meetings and minute-taking for Board meetings
- Managing logistical and travel arrangements
Advocacy:
- Assisting and organizing high level panel discussions in Europe
- Preparing all material for advocacy events
- Attend meetings with key actors with the Executive Director
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field with at least one year experience working with an international NGO;
- Knowledge of and experience working with international, humanitarian, human rights and environmental law as well as legal issues related to housing, land and property and displacement;
- Experience of updating a website and knowledge of WordPress desirable;
- Understanding of protection and displacement issues in conflict and post-context would be an advantage;
- Knowledge of the UN mechanisms and international justice mechanisms;
- Must have excellent organisational skills and excellent analytical skills;
- Must have experience planning and coordinating international conferences, roundtables and seminars;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong technical literacy;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work on own and take initiative; demonstrated experience working remotely; and
- Excellent research and drafting skills.
Compensation: LAW is able to pay a small monthly stipend to cover travel and lunch costs.
