Position Overview:

Performs complete disassembly, inspection and reassembly of wind turbine and industrial gearboxes.  Work conducted in shop, in wind field and on towers.  Interact with customers in the field.

Responsibilities:

  1. Utilizes heating, cutting torches, hydraulic presses, high pressure extraction devices, heavy power tools, and liquid nitrogen to remove couplings and disassemble high pressure joints.
  2. Rig Heavy Industrial Equipment on and off vehicles  with overhead cranes and level and align machine for testing with motor
  3. Match mark components, label disassembled parts and sketch part assemblies with enough organization for someone else to put the machine back together
  4. Measure critical parts using ID micrometers, OD micrometers, and Depth micrometers
  5. Machine small components for reassembly, i.e. spacers and key stock.  Drill and tap holes if necessary for handling or repair.
  6. Clean parts via power wash or hands for inspection team review
  7. Disassemble and reassemble all machine components including bearings and couplings and high pressure joints (4000 bar)
  8. Creates and documents failure analysis reports, orders parts
  9. Performs trouble-shooting and final testing
  10. Identifies field failures, communicates with customer to schedule repairs in the field, makes travel arrangements and creates expense reports upon return.
  11. Performs related tasks or works on special projects/teams as required.
  12. Supervise a small crew.

Reports to Service Manager, has no direct reports.

Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

H.S. diploma or equivalent required. Technical or vocational training strongly preferred.  Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Experience Requirements:

10 plus years hands on mechanical repair and inspection experience required.  Previous field service travel. Machining and measuring tool experience.  Experience in the wind industry and/or its products a plus.  Machine repair, hydraulic, and electrical experience a plus.  Ability to read manufacturing and schematic drawings a plus.

Other Requirements:

Must be in good physical condition.  Must follow appropriate industry and company safety and environmental policies.  Candidate must not be afraid of heights or confined spaces as this position includes working on towers +300 feet tall.  Flexible to work longs hours and weekends.  Travel internationally and  domestic up to 90%.  Able to talk to customers on the phone and in person.
