Job Description
We are looking for VP Finance to build and lead the finance & accounting function at Carbon Direct. This role includes financial planning, reporting and analysis, cash flow management, budgeting and forecasting, capital fundraising, and providing strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization. The VP Finance will report directly to the CEO and serve as an integral member of the leadership team. Although a background in climate work is a plus but not a prerequisite, a passion for solving climate problems is a must.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Financial Planning: Develop financial and tax strategies. Assess the financial efficacy of programmatic operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support operations.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Direct the preparation of all financial reports. Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner. Communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes, and keep the senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
- Accounting: Establish and document accounting policies, controls, procedures, and back-up documentation. Streamline and drive accounting operational efficiencies to reduce close time and ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Cash Management & Forecasting: Manage the company’s cash flow and forecasting. Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
- Compliance: support compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Budgeting: Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets. Implement a robust financial management/reporting system; ensure that the budget is adhered to.
- Investment Management: Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile. Construct and monitor reliable control systems.
- Leadership: Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team. Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team.
- Team building: Foster a culture within the Finance function that is responsive to the needs of the business; ensure financial, analytical, planning and operational excellence
Qualifications
- Experienced professional with proven managerial track record leading accounting and finance functions, preferably with experience building an FP&A function.
- Experience with private-equity backed companies and fundraising preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization.
- Strong problem-solving and creative skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
- Experience partnering with an executive team, and a high level of written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software, preferably QuickBooks
- Strong Excel skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. A Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent is advantageous, but not required.
Compensation
Salary is $220,000 - $280,000 a year. This reflects the base pay range for this role. We offer a competitive total rewards package including equity and competitive benefits.
Note: for this role, we have a strong preference for candidates based in or around New York City.
