Position Overview
Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Bartow, FL Transportation NEPA Group as a Transportation/Environmental Planner II.
Under supervision, applies technical professional proficiency to the solution of planning problems and the coordination of related project activities. Work may involve NEPA environmental and biological analysis and documentation, urban planning, transportation or archaeological projects.
Responsibilities
- Performs work which involves documenting, analyzing, discussing, and illustrating diversified projects, or phases of a single project, primarily related to the planning and implementation of transportation facilities.
Qualifications
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning or related field.
- This level may be achieved by Planners with two years' experience since Bachelor's or one year since Master's.
- Typical degreed incumbent has 4-5 years' experience.
- Professional experience in environmental/natural resources/biology/natural sciences is required.
- Planning experience in Florida is strongly preferred.
Special Skills
- Understanding of project management principles and requirements and financial management of project budgets.
- Aptitude for maintaining a professional attitude and attention to detail while working alone and within a team environment.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills with clients and colleagues.
- Strong organizational, task, and time management, deductive reasoning, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with the MS Office suite of software. Knowledge of ArcGIS desired.
- Perform field investigations of projects, including land use, natural and community resources.
- Coordinate with design professionals, technical resource experts, and the overall project team to identify opportunities for avoiding and minimizing potential impacts.
- Evaluate the impacts from transportation and planning projects on the built, cultural, and natural environments.
- Gather and analyze data related to NEPA documentation, including environmental justice, community impacts, indirect and cumulative effects, and land use.
- Assist with preparing NEPA documentation for transportation and planning projects.
- Assist with implementing public involvement programs and outreach activities.
Professional Registrations
- AICP or PMP certification preferred but not required.
