Humboldt State University is part of the 23-campus California State University system. Humboldt State University's Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences Department (ENRS) invites applications for 1 full-time tenure-track position in Energy and Climate Change Policy.

Position Overview:

Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a research record. The position will be split between teaching and associated duties in the ENRS Department and engaging in research at the Schatz Energy Research Center.

Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students. Possible courses include: Introduction to Environmental Science, Introduction to Environmental Policy, Environmental Problem Solving, Thermodynamics and Energy Systems (for non-engineers), and/or senior capstone projects-oriented courses. The candidate will also provide advising for Environmental Science majors.

Candidates must have a strong interest in research and in securing external funding for research. During the first 2 years the candidate will receive 50% release time from teaching to engage in scholarly activities at the Schatz Energy Research Center (SERC). This release time will be used to develop an active research program in areas related to clean energy technology and policy and to engage in associated activities at SERC.

After the initial 2 years, the candidate will be expected to generate research funds that will allow a continued buyout of 50% teaching time every year thereafter. The candidate will be expected to include graduate and/or undergraduate students in his/her scholarly work and to participate in the graduate programs within the College of Natural Resources and Sciences.

Responsibilities:

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship, creative activity, and service to the University, profession and community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participating in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participating in traditional academic functions. 

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. from an accredited college or university is required at the time of appointment. The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in the science/engineering of energy systems, climate science, and energy policy.
