Founded in 1978, the Minnesota Zoo exists to connect people, animals, and the natural world.

Position Overview:

The Minnesota Zoo is hiring a temporary unclassified (2 years) part-time (80%) State Program Administrator Intermediate for the Education Department. The Minnesota Zoo and Walton Family Foundation have partnered to develop and implement a sustainable seafood education and training program.

Under minimal supervision, support conservation education by facilitating sustainable seafood programming at the Zoo and throughout the Twin Cities culinary community. Primary duties include content research, program design and implementation, and communication and collaboration with external partners.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

Culinary arts or related bachelor's degree (for example, fisheries science, biology, environmental science, conservation, or education) AND 3 years of experience delivering educational/training programs, preferably with adult learners

Other Job Requirements:

  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to handle large workloads in a fast-paced, high-energy department
  • Excellent written, oral and public communication skills
  • Excellent leadership qualities and organizational skills
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Awareness of current, local, national and international ocean and seafood conservation issues and topics, and the ability to clearly and effectively communicate them to various audiences
  • Consumption of seafood and shellfish
  • Must have a vehicle and valid driver's license, insurance, and willingness to travel to outreach sites
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to lift and carry light objects frequently and heavier materials occasionally, with or without others' help; must be able to do moderate lifting to transport equipment and materials to sites
  • Requires a significant amount of standing, walking, and/or the equivalent ability to mobilize

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of project management/coordination
  • As a culinary professional working with seafood as a chef, retailer, culinary school instructor, and/or purveyor
