Description
The Sustainability Champion will be a member of the company-wide Sustainability Initiative interfacing with all practice groups. He/she teaches and provides sustainability knowledge, strategies and practices cross-linked with user research to discover opportunities for design and business innovation.
Design, launch and manage a profitable sustainability initiative at the company:
o Develop vision and implement sustainable services for product design teams to aspire for sustainable design objectives - create products and systems that are:
§ Environmentally benign - design offers measurable environmental benefits
§ Socially equitable - design fills the needs of all stakeholders involved in the product life-cycle
§ Economically viable - design is innovative and competitive in the marketplace such that it drives new revenues by using environmental focus and human-centric approaches to add value to products, reach out to (green) consumers, and create new market space
o Define sustainable product design process for product design teams to consistently and reliably work with clients to create successful, towards zero-impact, human-centered sustainable products.
o Define, develop, adapt, select, implement, manage sustainable product design approaches, metrics, databases and tools to support product design teams.
Closely collaborate with product design teams to develop the business case for and champion sustainability performance for new and existing products:
o Work with product design teams to ensure that products are designed to meet sustainable product design objectives while leading to explore innovation opportunities:
§ Coach product design teams on Design for Sustainability processes, assessment tools and improvement strategies.
§ Communicate the pros and cons of design features and strategies from a sustainability perspective considering life-cycle, manufacturing, customer, user, competition and regulatory affairs points of view.
§ Act as project manager for environmental and toxicological teams as they support product design groups.

Background/Training:
* Bachelors Degree in environmental engineering or a relevant scientific discipline with 5-years product design experience or Masters Degree with 3-years experience, or Ph.D.
* Formal training involving a wide range of disciplines from technical electives to policy and economics, consolidating a broad, interdisciplinary knowledge base and whole-systems thinking.
* Experience in interdisciplinary project teams and working cross-functionally.
