Supplier Diversity and Sustainability Manager

We seek to have graduates across all schools understand issues surrounding sustainability and how their work can contribute to a more sustainable world.

 

The Supplier Diversity and Sustainability Manager will be responsible for developing a comprehensive strategy for supplier diversity & sustainability, and managing all aspects of the program, leveraging both internal and external best-practices. The role will be ultimately responsible for coordinating diversity, socially and environmentally responsible sourcing, and engagement of historically underutilized businesses. Partnering with the Office of Global Inclusion and the Office of Sustainability, this position will help to monitor and report on procurement spend with diverse and local businesses, support end user requirements, focus on improving procurement sustainability efforts, and promote the University's brand in the community. The role also includes responsibility for diverse business community outreach and relationship building with both the University and local diverse business advocacy organizations.

 

Required Education:

• Bachelor's Degree Supply chain, Business, Public Administration or a related field.

Preferred Education:

• Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, other business related field, or Engineering and/or Procurement, Supply Chain, and /or Project Management or Master's Degree MBA or other advanced degree in a related field.

Required Experience:

• 5+ years experience managing a Supplier Diversity and/or Sustainability program or equivalent.
• Must have equivalent experience in procurement, managing competitive bidding processes, contracted service delivery, vendor relations, and client satisfaction.

Preferred Experience:

• 7+ years years of related experience.
• Experience with Procurement is highly preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of Supplier Diversity and Sustainability programs, preferably in a higher-education environment.
• Experience with implementing and leveraging Supplier Diversity Databases/Directories Possesses skill to advocate for and influence change in business decisions with respect to supplier diversity utilization.
• Strong knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations that apply to the provisions and limitations of a Supplier Diversity Program.
• Experience with lifecycle cost assessment, cost-benefit analysis, and/or similar metrics and their use in demonstrating the value proposition for sustainability.
• Strong experience with sustainability evaluation rating systems such as LEED, WELL, Fitwell, BIFMA, EPDs, HPDs, EPEAT, ENERGY STAR, Green Seal, FSC, and/or others.
• Experience with ESG and CSR rating and reporting systems such as GRI, GRESB, B Corp and/or others.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and programs at a time and balance competing priorities.
• Has acquired knowledge of principles and practices of contract administration and procurement strategies.
• Knowledge of various contract types, proposal preparations and cost and price analysis.
• Ability to analyze situations, identify problems and recommend solutions.
• Ability to analyze data and draw relevant and appropriate conclusions.
• Consistency in application of university and department policies and practices.
• Previous experience with small business, diversity councils and diversity organizations, and/or sustainability councils and organizations.
• Demonstrated ability to develop data-driven business cases including demand forecasts, category trends, and accurate savings estimations.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Proven methodology for benchmarking against higher education or industry Supplier Diversity program and Sustainability initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to make effective business decisions, including the ability to apply logical thinking and exercise sound judgment.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and Microsoft Office Suite Products.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Knowledge and proficiency with the Jaggaer procurement system.
• Knowledge and proficiency with sustainability procurement reporting tools such as AASHE STARS or similar.
