Project Highlights Supporting the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy:
- Lead development of a dairy processor focused Waste Audit Guidance resource through collaboration with the Processor Working Group Waste (PWG) Team as a key strategy of the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy's Strategic Plan pillar to Accelerate the Circular Economy
- Work with subject matter expert from Total Resource Use & Efficiency (TRUE) to ensure guidance is aligned with recognized and accepted waste standards and Stewardship Commitment Resource Recovery metrics
- Convene key stakeholder groups such as PWG Waste Team, and Environmental Stewardship Committee to gather feedback and input on process and content development
- Support other Processor Working Group workstreams as needed to help drive progress towards 2050 Environmental Stewardship Goals at the processor level
Education and Skill Requirements:
Preferably a student with a sustainability major, or a major that has ties to a sustainability focus. General background/knowledge in waste and circularity. Project management, presentation, and large group facilitation skills are a plus!
This is a 'virtual' intern program, however, students in the greater Chicagoland area may choose to work from the Rosemont office (or a hybrid model of partial office/partial remote):
In addition to on-the-job development, you will participate in a variety of personal and professional training sessions and fun activities (yes, we can have fun on Zoom). DMI values the fresh perspectives and insights that students bring to the table, and our leaders are available for informal chats, or to connect more formally in a Mentor capacity. We encourage interns to get involved in meetings and to pursue projects that are of interest to them.
- Paid Internship
- Work hours are 8:30-4:30 (CDT), Monday – Friday (we have some flexibility if needed)
- 10-12 Week Internship (generally runs early-June to August/September)
- Interns do not receive medical/dental benefits or paid time off
- Students should be eligible to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future

- Based upon the nature of the work/projects we are prioritizing students who, at a minimum, are entering their third year of undergraduate studies in Fall, 2022.
- When submitting your application, include a Summary that includes your focus/interest area, e.g., Sustainability, Environmental Science, Agribusiness, etc. as well as the type of degree you're currently pursuing (Undergrad, Masters, or PhD).
- Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.
