~ New Jersey Sustainable Business Council (NJ SBC) is a newly forming network of business organizations and companies committed to advancing market solutions and policies to support a vibrant, just and sustainable New Jersey economy. ~
NJ SBC brings together the state's values-based business leaders to form a power base that will educate businesses, legislators and the media; be a catalyst for sound new policies; and advance systemic market change to actively foster a viable, sustainable economy at all levels.
NJ SBC is a state affiliate of The American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC).
Position Overview
NJSBC seeks a qualified
candidate to serve as our Statewide Coordinator. The Statewide
Coordinator is responsible for directing and building the NJSBC, and for
managing its policy and campaign initiatives.
The Statewide Coordinator will work 8 to 16 hours a week initially. As additional funds are raised, NJ SBC intends to increase the number of work-hours. This position should be based in New Jersey and be willing and able to initially work remotely.
Reporting:
- The Coordinator reports to the NJ SBC Steering Committee and works to support committee members' ongoing engagement.
- The Coordinator works in cooperation with, and is supported in part by, the American Sustainable Business Council and its staff.
Responsibilities
While duties will evolve and grow over time as the organization and
position mature, ultimately the statewide coordinator will:
- Build
Membership: Reach out to appropriate partner organizations, businesses,
and individuals to find allied businesses and organizations interested
in becoming members. - Work with NJ SBC Steering Committee to establish organizational development strategy and policy agenda.
- Work with American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC) and represent NJ SBC as a part of ASBC's leadership.
- Oversee the issues campaign and policy efforts of the NJ SBC at the state level and coordinate with ASBC at the national level.
- Coordinate media and public relations.
- Maintain
excellent communication with members and allies on advocacy issues,
organizational progress, and new potential partners. - Identify
potential revenue opportunities to support the new organization,
including membership fees and other means of financial support.
- Successful track record as a self-starter and self-manager;
- Fluent in the basic metrics and perspectives of business;
- 3 years' experience in organization-building work;
- Proven experience in campaign organizing and implementation;
- Demonstrably effective written and verbal communication skills;
- Media skills a plus; and
- Experience in policy development.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
