Position Overview

This role recommends and leads research and development projects of new products/processes of a highly complex technical nature which can significantly impact the profitable growth of the corporation. 

Responsibilities  

Essential Functions: 

  • Researches and recommends emergent opportunities. Plans and executes feasibility assessments for major technology and product development projects, including those directed toward new platforms or significant derivative products. Compiles and analyzes operation, test, market, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products or systems. Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, markets, or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or conformation by testing is advisable. Synthesizes solutions based on multiple disciplines.
  • Provides expert technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning for commercial platform development by carefully analyzing and applying advanced engineering and scientific concepts as well as the output of fundamental cost modeling. Broad base interaction with wide range of internal and external higher level contacts.
  • Assists in training and development of innovators and innovation specialists (both within the Innovation Centers and also within the BU product development organizations). Assists with project feasibility and project management.
  • Acts as team leader/subject matter expert on matters of electrical engineering and applied electronics. Able to define and develop a portfolio of projects that feed our Product Development Portfolio. Identifies mentoring and development needs; serves as a mentor for other employees May supervise junior level technical professionals.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other resources to provide recommendations, lessons learned, methods for problem-solving, analysis methodology, etc. to maximize contribution to multiple projects or programs. Leads more complex or multifunctional team(s).
  • Maintains advanced level of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, benchmarking best practices, and/or participating in professional associations.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in an electrical engineering, science, or technical field. 7 years of related, commercial product experience.
  • Track record delivering technology into the commercial market place.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Effective data analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Effective organization level communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience motivating or coordinating with a multidisciplinary team. 

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Hands-on experience in successful product and technology development.
  • Experience or interest in materials and material applications.
  • Patents experience.
  • Team Leadership Skills.
