We are seeking a passionate and proven ESG reporting, sustainability communications and community impact expert to join our Global Sustainability team and to be an enthusiastic champion for our sustainability strategy and the value it will create in the company.
The Senior Manager, Sustainability Reporting & Communications, will report to the Vice President of Global Sustainability and will serve as a key member of the Sustainability function with responsibility for creating and leading global programs and initiatives that support Edgewell’s sustainability strategy and advance the reputation and awareness of the company’s ESG progress and performance. Working in collaboration with cross-functional teams and business groups from across all areas of the company, the Senior Manager will create and drive best-in-class sustainability communication and ESG reporting programs and practices that help to serve and anticipate the needs of our business and key stakeholders.
Additionally, this role will lead the company’s People & Communities sustainability pillar and be responsible for developing and managing Edgewell’s global community impact strategy and key programs – including strategic partnerships, impact measurement and reporting – as well as helping to support related corporate initiatives.
The ideal candidate will be passionate not only about driving social and environmental impact but also possess a depth of sustainability subject matter expertise, exceptional storytelling/writing skills and have prior experience with leading and developing ESG reports at a publicly traded company.
Key Accountabilities:
ESG / SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING
- Partner with VP Global Sustainability to help develop and support corporate ESG Steering Committee, including agenda-setting, presentation and meeting facilitation.
- Lead all aspects of annual ESG / sustainability report development and execution, including defining report strategy and project management of report from start to finish.
- Serve as the master architect and storyteller for the report; define and lead development / collection of all content, metrics, and visuals – in alignment with global reporting frameworks, regulations, and best practices.
- Co-lead data collection, analysis, and verification in partnership with cross-functional sustainability team.
- Serve as the company subject matter expert for current and emerging ESG reporting standards and frameworks (eg, GRI, SASB, TCFD, EU CSRD, UNSDG, etc.); evaluate, identify and monitor company reporting capabilities, gaps and improvement opportunities and present recommendations to senior management.
- Establish and oversee ESG reporting processes, policies and practices; design and implement required checks and measures to enhance robustness of the process.
- Partner with key internal functions (eg, Internal Audit, Regulatory, Legal) to lead and support report assurance and compliance related activities.
- Develop annual continuous improvement plans to enhance year/year sustainability program performance, reporting and transparency.
- Provide reporting and communication support for other sustainability-related reports, ratings, rankings, surveys, etc.
- Conduct ongoing research and benchmarking to help the company stay informed and prepared for risks and opportunities associated with ESG trends, best practices, market developments, customer expectations, current/emerging ESG regulations, evolution in reporting standards, etc.
SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNICATIONS
- Develop sustainability communication strategies/ programs to support Edgewell's Sustainable Care 2030 strategy and corporate sustainability initiatives globally; lead planning and execution for internal/external communication efforts in partnership with Corporate Communications, HR, brand teams and other key stakeholders.
- Proactively engage with brand/functional teams to identify and develop strategic messaging/proof points and engaging storytelling opportunities to promote Edgewell's sustainability strategy and social/ environmental initiatives across key target audiences, including retail customers, consumers, investors and teammates.
- Serve as a sustainability subject matter expert, content creator and lead editor for the company’s sustainability messaging and storytelling; proactively manage sustainability communication program execution and channels (eg, sustainability web/intranet, PPT presentations, newsletters, Yammer, etc.).
- Support corporate reputation/crisis issues, as needed, in partnership with Corporate Communications and other key stakeholders; develop plans and processes for proactively monitoring, managing, and mitigating social and environmental issues based on current and emerging stakeholder focus areas.
- Develop and manage corporate sustainability messaging, presentations, tools, and creative assets to support business, brand, marketing, and commercial teams.
- Lead corporate sustainability training program; create/deliver internal trainings to support sustainability strategy, as appropriate.
- Support brand / customer engagements and activations, as needed.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
- Own and lead the People & Communities sustainability pillar.
- Develop and execute corporate sustainability impact strategy and framework; drive alignment and collaboration across corporate, brand and local community engagement efforts and teams.
- Lead cross-functional team to develop tools and capabilities for community impact tracking, data collection and internal/external reporting across cash / product donation, teammate giving and volunteerism efforts globally.
- Develop communication repository for community impact reporting and storytelling.
- Create and drive a global volunteer program within Edgewell in partnership with HR, Corporate Communications, and DEI; proactively engage Community Impact Site Champions and functional partners to elevate and extend our community impact locally and globally.
- Manage and oversee all programmatic and operational aspects for Edgewell's giving match program for teammates in North America, including teammate engagement / communications, financial / budget administration, technology platform / partner relations (Benevity), etc.
- Create and manage projects, process and program documents and implement mechanisms to standardize their use, in order to maintain well managed programs (i.e. presentation decks, KPIs, workflow trackers).
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in related field to sustainability / ESG.
- 7+ years relevant sustainability / ESG / CSR professional work experience, including experience leading in a sustainability communication and/or ESG reporting role with a publicly traded global company.
- Experience and deep understanding of sustainability marketing, communication and reporting best practices, ideally within the CPG sector.
- Ability to understand, clearly communicate and present complex sustainability messages to a broad range of internal/external audiences in a simple, compelling and technically accurate manner.
- Strong technical knowledge and proven experience leading and working with relevant ESG / sustainability reporting standards and frameworks (ie, GRI, SASB, TCFD, EU CSRD, UN SDG, etc.).
- Working knowledge of social and environmental issues such as climate, environmental conservation, biodiversity, supply chain, human rights, labor practices, social impact, etc.
- Proven experience with developing and project managing ESG reports, including messaging, content creation, data aggregation/analysis, creative design, and communication delivery.
- Superior project management skills and attention to detail.
- Strong data management skills and analytical thinker. Proficient in defining, analyzing, and communicating both quantitative and qualitative information.
- Excellent communication skills – written, visual, and verbal – and the ability to translate them into emails, PPT presentations, talking points, data visualization, etc.
- Effectively communicate with executive leadership and senior management, including experience creating/presenting to senior leaders.
- Excellent interpersonal and influencer skills with ability to drive cross-functional alignment, collaboration and change management.
- Ability to think strategically, exercise sound judgement and problem-solve including evaluation and identification of timely solutions.
- Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills. Able to simultaneously manage multiple issues and assignments, accurately complete multiple tasks, and to work under deadlines and changing priorities to drive results.
- Highly motivated self-starter that takes initiatives and excels when given opportunities to work more autonomously.
- Proficient with general office software applications (MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
- Request sustainability writing/report samples to support work experience.
Desirable Education, Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Business, Science in Environmental/Sustainable Management, Sustainable Business, or related field to sustainability / ESG.
- Understanding of lifecycle assessment tools and other product related sustainability practices.
- Strong sustainability network and knowledge of best-in-class organizations, partnerships, and practices.
- Experience with XML, Power BI and/or ESG / sustainability related software platforms a plus.
Work Environment:
- Due to global footprint, will require occasional meetings outside of typical business hours.
- Minimal travel, as required by business needs.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000. The actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
