Job Summary

The Solar Photovoltaic Lead I installer will assemble, install, and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction to Level I and II installers in the absence of the foreman.

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform all Level I and II installer duties/responsibilities.
  • Ability to lead teammembers with the assistance of the foreman.
  • Ability to identify issues, notify the foreman and help resolve them.
  • Must know how to work with composite shingle roofs, variety of tile roofs, composite flat roofs, PVC roofs and metal roofs.
  • Ability to install more complect module roof layouts.
  • Properly string homeruns/string jumpers through EMT pipes on roofs.
  • Properly keep track of strings to Junction boxes and do proper makeups in J-boxes.
  • Properly run, secure, and label flex in attics or crawl spaces per code.
  • Properly setup solar equipment on wall per code while keeping aesthetics high priority.
  • Properly running EMT and wiring from solar electrical equipment to roof and staying consistent with connectors and couplings.
  • Know how to work in a main electrical panel, install a solar breaker, and install irreversible crimps on the grounding electrode.
  • Knowledge of main electrical panel material takeoff for panel upgrades.
  • Knowledge of Main panel setup and electrical wiring, under Foreman supervision.
  • Knowledge of neutrals and how to mark them properly and tie them in with zip ties
  • Ability to assist in Battery installs on the wall or mounting on concrete pads for Tesla, Enphase, and SunPower.
  • Ability to run conduit from batteries to the combiner panels and understand derate and overcurrent protection codes.
  • Set up ladders properly on one story and 2-story residences following safety regulations.
  • Ability to take proper photos during the installation for internal review and quality control.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of PV equipment and installation.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical wiring and equipment.
  • Attention to Detail.
  • Ability to read PV plans.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools to install PV panels.
  • Must understand and follow the best safety practices during and after the process of installation.

Education and Experience:

  • 2+ years of related field experience.
  • Vocational or technical school training preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work at great heights.
  • Prolonged periods of kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling and climbing ladders.
  • Crawling in crawl spaces and attics when required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud when installation is in process. Employee will be subject to weather conditions, not limited to rain, wind and heat and cold. Employees are required to wear protective equipment (PPE) as assigned by their designated work area.

Compensation 

  • Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
