Position Overview:

The Chief Operating Officer, Credit Suisse Group division is looking for a Senior Sustainability Affairs Officer for the New York office.

Responsibilities: 

The role involves:

  • The opportunity to be part of an international, dynamic, high-profile team focusing on environmental and social issues within Credit Suisse and to contribute to the development and implementation of the bank's policies on these issues
  • The challenge of evaluating social and environmental risks associated with our business activities and to manage and reduce such risks
  • The responsibility to ensure the application of the Equator Principles to international financial transactions
  • The challenge to establish, maintain, and manage the bank's long-term relationships with relevant outside stakeholders such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and inter-governmental organizations (IGOs)
  • The responsibility to contribute to raising internal awareness for environmental and social issues relevant to our banking activities and to supporting ongoing training activities within the bank
  • The opportunity to contribute to our corporate citizenship reporting and to raise our public profile in terms of environmental and social issues

Qualifications:

To qualify, you must possess:

  • University degree in environmental studies, science, international relations or other relevant background and experience; post-graduate education would be a strong plus
  • Substantial work experience in sustainability affairs, social and environmental issues, ideally at a financial institution or at an NGO or IGO; an established network of contacts with social and environmental NGOs internationally, and in particular in the Americas, would be highly desirable
  • Good social and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with people and organizations across the political spectrum and with a wide variety of backgrounds and agendas; ability to work independently
  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills; working knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese and of German would be helpful
  • Readiness to travel, in particular within the Americas region
