Senior Science and Policy Manager

Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII) is a non-profit organization created to bring about a large scale transformation in the way we make things.

Position Overview:

The C2CPII is seeking to fill the senior leadership position of Senior Science and Policy Manager. The ideal candidate will be a recognized leader in the field of chemistry or related sciences who can communicate a vision for Cradle to Cradle certificationTM and work with stakeholders worldwide to achieve that vision.

The position will be responsible for Cradle to Cradle® CERTIFICATION science and policy development at the Institute and will report directly to the President. As a member of the senior leadership team the person filling this position will help set the Institute's strategic direction. The position will be the primary manager of the C2CPII product certification program.

Responsibilities:

In addition the position is responsible for:

• Developing a strategic approach for Cradle to Cradle certification including oversight of certification methodology and additional operational responsibilities.
• Engaging in conversations with other groups at the stakeholder, procurement and regulatory level seeking to align these interests with the C2CPII certification methodology and guiding principles.
• Leads efforts to further develop C2CPII identity and influence with such entities as The Sustainability Consortium, Design for Environment, Federal and State General Services Administrations, and other international efforts.
• Work with other members of the team to design and implement strategies that will leverage and build C2C certified product preference within the business community.
• Work with the Certification Standard Board to engage and involve the larger scientific community in building support and credibility for the C2C certification methodology.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have the following minimum professional qualifications:

• Masters degree or higher in a chemistry discipline or other relevant field, or a Bachelors degree with 15 years experience.
• 5 years + of practical, hands on toxicological or chemical evaluation experience. (Preferably doing product assessments under a single or multiple standards)
• Background in product development at the engineering or chemical analysis level.
• Demonstrated understanding of competing chemical hazard protocols.
• Ability and experience discussing hazard and alternative assessment from a regulatory perspective. Including knowledge of programs such as DTSC,EPA/DFE, TSCA, etc.
• Cross-sector application of chemical hazard and alternative assessment in a range of consumer markets including textiles, health care, and building materials is a plus.

Applicants should also possess the following general qualifications:

• Familiarity with and or a willingness to be trained in the C2C thinking.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to appreciate the needs of a recently established organization (2 years).
• Demonstrated program and project management experience.
• Ability to work with a team of peers and others of varying backgrounds and skills.
• Experience with logistical and IT systems.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and is negotiable.

Position is based in San Francisco. Ability to travel as needed is critical.
