Sustainable Development and Construction is a combination of former departments - and divisions within other departments - that provided permit and plan review, approval and inspection services for private development.
The new organization is designed to be more responsive to customers and more effective and efficient in internal communications. The Sustainable Development and Construction Department is structured such that a person wanting to build in Dallas can conduct business within one department, under the leadership of one director and one assistant city manager.

Position Overview:
The Senior Plans Examiner analyzes residential, commercial and multi-family plans for compliance with zoning and building codes. Provides consultation respective of city requirements to prospective owners, developers, engineers and contractors.
Qualifications:
5 years experience as a city planner, municipal development plans examiner, building inspector, building contractor or construction superintendent. Requires effective oral and written communication skills, basic PC skills, valid driver's license and good driving record. High school diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree in planning, architecture, civil engineering or building construction field will substitute for 4 years of the required experience.
