Position Overview
Put your
technical, analytical, and field skills to work reducing the environmental
impact of the built environment by optimizing energy and water efficiency and
promoting healthier indoor environments for occupants and residents. The Senior
Energy Engineer will be expected to help further develop our commercial energy
services offerings, while also contributing to the technical implementation of
our existing programs and projects.
Responsibilities
The Senior Energy
Engineer may be responsible for:

Leading the
development of AEA’s commercial building energy services division -
Adding technical
capacity to our existing suite of technical service offerings -
Performing energy
analysis and provide advanced engineering and other analytical support for
projects. This may be in the form of energy consulting, energy analysis, energy
modeling/building simulation, and energy savings estimates for lighting,
controls, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning (HVAC), and
other building systems, conducting building energy audits, recommending or
specifying modifications to new and existing systems -
Preparing energy
and green building assessment reports based on analytic findings which include
detailed equipment specifications and cost savings analysis -
Presenting the
methodology and results of evaluations through written reports and oral
presentations -
Energy efficiency
program implementation/management -
Conducting
technical peer review -
Performing LEED,
Green Point Rated and HERS consulting services -
Performing
commissioning (Cx) and retro-commissioning (RCx) services -
Performing
renewable energy feasibility assessments -
Building
effective partnerships with architects, firm's current and future clients,
governmental organizations and other external organizations to support AEA’s efforts -
Participating in
marketing and business development efforts of the organization with a goal of
increasing the client base and market sectors the organization serves -
Researching
academic and industry literature/white papers to stay abreast with latest
advances in the design of high performance building design -
Assisting other
team members by providing technical input to their projects -
Mentoring and
contributing to the development of junior staff -
Educating clients
and colleagues about available incentive/rebate programs and energy efficiency
opportunities -
Providing support
to projects that are pursuing rebates and incentives
Note: These job
responsibilities may be revised over time to ensure the functional
responsiveness of the Senior Energy Engineer to AEA and Federal and California
State program requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering,
architecture, environmental science, construction management or other
sustainability related focus, with a demonstrated interest in energy
conservation and building science preferred - In-depth knowledge of building systems
including lighting technologies, building envelope, mechanical systems and
combustion science - At least 3 years of experience
conducting audits and analysis of commercial buildings - Excellent technical writing skills and
experience - Proficiency in Microsoft software,
including Excel but also Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Additional Qualifications Desired:
- PE, CEM
- Experience with the use of energy
modeling software i.e., EnergyPro, eQUEST, DOE2 programs, CBECC-Com or Res - Knowledge and understanding of Title
24 and other building codes - Familiarity with local, state and
federal incentive and rebate programs - Ability to perform cost savings
analyses and fuel data analyses
