The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) is a national non-profit membership-based organization located in Boston, Massachusetts. PSI works with state and local government agencies to partner with manufacturers, retailers, environmental groups, federal agencies, and other key stakeholders to reduce the health and environmental impacts of consumer products. Current products include electronics, paint, thermostats, propane gas cylinders, tires, and pharmaceuticals.
Responsibilities:
The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) seeks an enterprising individual who thrives in a fast-paced, small organization. PSI is conducting cutting-edge work on product stewardship and sustainability, and seeks someone who has the energy, expertise, and creativity to develop with the organization.
The position of Senior Associate - Programs and Fiscal Management includes the following:
- FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Work with accountant/consultant, PSI Treasurer, and Executive Director, to:
- Ensure sound financial management of PSI.
- Track budget, manage grants and contracts, and manage bookkeeping.
- Generate financial reports as required.
- Manage PSI payroll and employee benefits.
- Process checks, invoices, and expense reports; liaison with bank.
- Liaison with insurance carriers.
- COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS: Work with computer and telephone consultants and vendors to maintain computer and communication systems, including troubleshooting, equipment upgrades/purchases, ensuring cost-effective cell phone/telephone service plans, and related issues.
- PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Work with project management consultant to track PSI projects and administrative tasks using specified project management software; assist Executive Director in allocating staff and consultant time and resources.
- LEGAL SERVICES: Work with attorney/consultant to seek legal advice and ensure compliance with State and Federal requirements to maintain nonprofit and tax exempt status.
- RESEARCH: Conduct research on priority products, product stewardship financing systems, and other related areas.
- STAKEHOLDER INTERVIEWS: Interview manufacturers, retailers, recyclers, government officials, and other key stakeholders to determine key concerns and problems related to product management, as well as potential policy solutions.
- MEETING FACILITATION: Facilitate and manage multi-stakeholder product-oriented dialogues.
- PRESENTATIONS: Conduct presentations and represent the Institute at meetings, trainings, workshops, conferences, and other events.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in planning, environmental policy, or equivalent required.
- Experience with project management and financial management.
- Proven environmental research and writing skills with an ability to develop concise summaries and effectively use Internet resources.
- Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and programs.
- Excellent communication (written and oral), organization, and time management skills.
- Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs. Previous experience with Microsoft Office software is preferred.
Preferred Expertise:
- Familiarity with product management issues, such as product design, collection, reuse, recycling, source reduction, and toxicity.
- Demonstrated skills in working cooperatively with representatives of government, environmental groups, and industry.
- Experience working with high-level government officials and company representatives.
Compensation:
Salary: $42,000 - $50,000
