Position Overview: 

O'Brien & Company is seeking a talented individual to fill a temporary position providing sustainability and LEED consulting for residential (primarily) and commercial projects during maternity and paternity leave of permanent staff. This is a temporary position through the end of 2012 only. Future temporary or permanent opportunities will be evaluated and posted if applicable at the end of this position. 

Responsibilities may include:

Single-family Energy Star, LEED for Homes, and Built Green Consulting:

  • Project management on existing or new projects (working with clients, updating checklists, completing required forms, etc.), and updating project Lead on progress.
  • Providing on-site performance testing (blower door, duct blaster, exhaust fan testing), verification of green building strategies, QA inspections, and building science consulting.
  • Providing energy modeling and other analysis services for these projects.

Multi-family LEED for Homes and Built Green Consulting:

  • Assisting project manager with client management, checklist and LEED Tool updates.
  • Providing performance testing and other on-site services for these projects.

Commercial Green Project Consulting:

  • Acting as project staff for commercial green project consulting, including LEED projects.

This position requires regular travel, primarily around the Greater Seattle area.

Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Knowledge of and experience in green building and building science.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in clearly communicating technical information.
  • Ability to interact on a professional level with design and construction professionals, especially residential contractors.
  • A strong work ethic and efficient work style, including the ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
  • Superb organizational skills and a high level of efficiency.
  • A commitment to our shared values (see website).
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, including advanced skills with Excel and the ability to work efficiently and effectively with computer programs to compile well designed and organized documents. Fast, accurate typing skills are required.
  • Current diagnostics and performance testing credentials and experience (at least one of the following: HERS, BPI, Green Rater, Energy Star verifier/performance tester, etc.)

The successful candidate will also possess one or more of the following:

  • Knowledge of BOTH LEED for Homes (single family, multifamily low-rise and multifamily mid-rise) AND LEED BD+C Rating Systems (LEED AP Homes or BD+C specialization preferred).
  • Experience with energy auditing in existing residential and commercial buildings.
  • Energy modeling and other analysis services for single family and low-rise residential projects.

Compensation: This position is temporary for 32-40 hrs/week paid hourly. Hourly rate will be based on experience and company pay scales.
