At Lux, we serve innovative companies seeking to understand technology developments in the energy space and successfully navigate the energy transition. Clients include those in the energy industry, such as utilities and oil and gas companies, as well as industries impacted by the energy transition, such as automakers and heavy industry.

Position Overview

In this role you will be expected to provide these clients with insights into technical advancements in power generation such as wind turbines and solar photovoltaics. This includes identifying which technology innovations are most important to follow, understanding the business models developers of those technologies are using to bring new innovations to market, and advise our clients on how they should proceed.

Lux’s Energy Sciences team is seeking to hire a Research Associate to cover the latest technology innovations in direct power generation technologies with a focus in energy storage.

Responsibilities

• Work within a geographically diverse team to develop and test research hypotheses
• Conduct primary research with startups and other technology innovators and writing reviews which critically examine their technology merits and business models
• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the latest technology innovation trends in renewable power generation
• Prepare and deliver presentations to clients about our research
• Represent Lux Research at international energy conferences
• Conduct secondary research drawing on diverse sources, including business and trade press, academic publications, investments, patent filings, and conference presentations

Qualifications

• This is an entry level position; undergraduate degree or equivalent experience with 2 years of related industry experience OR M.S. in a related technical field with no industry experience
• A strong record of academic achievement
• Deep intellectual curiosity about the energy space and technical innovations in renewable power generation
• Entrepreneurial, enthusiastic, collegial, and collaborative approach to work
• High degree of organization and attention to detail; ability to juggle multiple tasks
• Ability to write clearly and incisively about business and technical topics
• Superior listening and critical thinking skills, and ability to speak articulately and think on your feet; a good sense of humor is a major plus
• Strong analytical skill, both qualitative and quantitative
