The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) employs over 400 associated scientists, staff and students across multiple sites. The Center looks for dedicated employees with a passion for science and renewable energy.

Position Overview:

The postdoctoral research associate, at Michigan State University, will engage in a research program exploring the economic and environmental sustainability of agricultural production in the Great Lakes region with a major focus on bioenergy.

The research is expected to include both field surveys and optimization modeling. In particular, the research associate will adapt and expand a regionally explicit bioeconomic mathematical programming model of agricultural production and environmental vulnerability. The model's purpose is to analyze spatial crop management responses to potential new biofuel crops, technologies, and policies.

Parallel work will involve design and analysis of surveys field experiments. The holder of this position will be expected to collaborate with a team of agricultural and ecological scientists, engineers, and modelers. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in writing journal articles and outreach publications, as well as to interact with graduate students.

This 12-month, fixed term research associate position has a principal appointment in the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) and a secondary appointment in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics at Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. It is available immediately, with project renewal funding expected from December 1, 2012.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Agricultural & Resource Economics, Economics or related field. Experience in mathematical programming and/or survey research. Good cross disciplinary communication skills.
