Description

Background:

Dr John Benson of the 5* Landscape Research Group, University of Newcastle,
has been awarded an ESRC grant under this new programme. This is one of 15
awards and some engagement with the whole programme will be involved.

Duties:

The project will explore the apparent gap between human attitudes and human
behaviours towards renewable energy (on-shore wind) using theories,
concepts and existing research from a range of disciplines, including
economics, environmental management, geography, planning, politics,
psychology and sociology. The core of the project involves a series of
interactive workshops during which a multi-disciplinary team of
participants (12 academics from the North East region) will review the
issues embedded in windfarm controversies. There will be a strong emphasis
on synthesis and on identifying new opportunities for cross-disciplinary
research. The research associate will devise the briefs for the workshops,
act as coordinator, liaise with collaborators, compile literature reviews,
assemble common data sources for participants and engage in comparative
analyses and integrated writing.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have relevant research experience but the
multi-disciplinary nature of the project means that many backgrounds would
be suitable. Cross-disciplinary education and experience are highly
desirable; above all, flexibility, organisational skills, initiative and an
ability to write well are essential.

Further details can be found at the web address given below.

Salary: In the range of: 18,265 - 21,815 per annum (RA1A). Fixed term for 12
months. Available from 1 March 2003 (full time or at 80%).

Closing date: Friday, 7 February 2003.
