The mission at the Central Pennsylvania Research and Teaching Laboratory for Biofuels at Penn State is to discover and disseminate knowledge addressing challenges in sustainable agriculture while providing students the fundamentals for future work in both agriculture and synthetic biology.
Goals
- Increase the profitability of Pennsylvania farmers and greenhouse growers for sustainable agricultural crop production.
- Engage with local growers and industries to improve the nutritional value of crops.
- Cultivate diversified pools of talented students – women and men, under-represented minorities, and persons with disabilities – into careers in biotechnology, medicine and health sciences.
Position Overview
The Central Pennsylvania Research and Teaching Laboratory for Biofuels (CPRTLB) is looking to hire part-time Research Assistants to assist with metabolic engineering of industrial hemp.
Job Duties
- Preparation of tissue culture media, growth hormones and culture of explants under sterile conditions .
- Assist with DNA, RNA and Protein isolation.
- Routine upkeep of the laboratory and Greehouse.
- Collect, analyze data and involve in publishing papers as co- authors.
- Assist with working on cancer cell lines and engineering cannabinoid pathway genes in E.Coli.
- Assist PI and Director of the laboratory with other duties as assigned.
