Position Overview
This position is in the Renewable Purchase Power team. Our ideal candidate will have experience in negotiating projects, specifically in the areas of wind, solar, and hydro. Preference will be given to candidates who have developed a renewable project before. We prefer candidates who have a background in power or project operations and some regulatory experience. Strong attention to detail and communication skills are vital for this role.
Summary
This role will negotiate, renegotiate, and administer long-term purchased power agreements and associated legal documents between Xcel Energy Operating Companies and qualifying facilities, IPPs, and utilities to meet native load requirements, minimize cost, and optimize the power supply portfolio. Ensure that regulatory requirements associated with power purchase agreements are met.

Essential Responsibilities
- Negotiate contracts with successful bidders in competitive solicitations, small power producers, and other long-term power suppliers. Negotiate agreements that facilitate the development of power projects, including financing documents. Work closely with legal counsel to ensure effective balancing of project development risk. Evaluate the viability of potential power projects and developers through due diligence. Develop model contracts.
- Coordinate the activities between the company (including other areas of Energy Markets, Delivery, Energy Supply, and Retail) and developers to with to ensure that facilities come on-line as planned and provide the service contracted for.
- Manage and administer existing contracts. Establish and maintain contract administration systems including programming and processes to ensure calculation/verification of billing and payments, management of escrow accounts and security deposits, insurance, notifications, outage scheduling and other documents.
- Identify and develop creative solutions to contract issues - identify ways to improve purchase value and optionality. Resolve basic contract disputes.
- Prepare and Sponsor testimony relating to purchased power resources to support regulatory approval of contracts. Prepare regulatory, financial, and corporate reporting regarding purchased power resources.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Finance (6 years related experience may substitute for the degree)
- 2 years experience in the energy industry including significant experience working on detailed technical matters, working on legislative and/or regulatory issues, and negotiating and administering contracts
- Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
