Position Overview
The Schenectady, NY Remote Operations Center (ROC) is working to bring our critical customer service operation to the next level. We are looking to fill several Remote Monitoring Support Specialist positions with individuals with forward thinking operational mindsets and who will partner with the leadership team to drive up the value of this GE Service O&M (Operation & Maintenance) component for the Renewable Energy Business.
Responsibilities
The Remote Monitoring Support Specialist, REN Energy Onshore Wind will be responsible for Renewables (REN) assets at hundreds of energy farms across the globe. We are looking for people to join us in our mission to maximize customer value by proactively detecting, evaluating and resolving customer issue with the highest level of safety, quality, and expertise. You will have a passion for a highly dynamic operational environment, the ability to help us make better use of IT automation, and will want to develop solid technical skills we want to hear from you.
You will be performing real-time execution of the global ROC strategy focused on efficiency, improvements, and consistency of remote power generation services operations. You will also disposition incoming error messages of Renewables assets (i.e. wind turbines, wind farm equipment, solar inverters, etc.) in the first level, initiate troubleshooting procedures, help return systems to service, and execute condition based monitoring and diagnostics.
In addition, you will:
- Execute mid-course adjustments in shift operations as directed by your shift lead to return turbines to service, adjust power and voltage on behalf of sites, and escalate issues affecting availability and under-performance to site or fleet performance teams
- Ensure that the state of the equipment under your control is documented in the ROC Enterprise Systems
- Adapt to new turbine and wind farm remote monitoring operational processes and ensure that you execute them in targeted time frames
- Support process and application scalability to support our growing fleet
- Manage and execute PAC queues to support sites, Fleet Performance teams, Engineering teams, and Warranty teams
- Help build, document, deploy, and support automation solutions to support scale of the ROC in terms of numbers of turbines supported and type of work expected from the ROC
- Actively feed lessons learned back into procedures and quality checks to drive ROC world class operational excellence
- Provide technical resolutions to software & hardware customer technical issues by solving simple problems or routing PAC cases to appropriate experts
- Help ensure that the transactional system support the ROC operations, and give a high priority to turbines when they down
- Help identify systematic technical issues in the transaction system to drive platform level solutions
- Provide input to develop training material relative to the Remote Operation team that can be used by both internal and external customers
- Provide feedback and suggestions to develop new software products and new Remote Operations services
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (OR Associate's Degree with 2 years of technical experience, OR High School Degree / GED with 4 years of technical experience)
Eligibility Requirements:
- Ability and willingness to work 42 hours / week, with three 12 hour shifts, one weekend day and one 6 hour shift, followed by 3 days off
Desired Characteristics:
- Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Science training / certification (OR related job or military experience)
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work well in team setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook
- Certified wind technician
- Experience with wind turbine software and firmware packages including: WindSCADA, VisuPro, ControlST (ToolboxST, WorkstationST), Bachmann PLC software and tools, Mark VIecontrol systems
- Distinctive ability to execute technical processes
- Strong customer service focus and desire for continual improvement
- Ability to take decisions and to adopt responsibility
- Strong quality awareness and ability to identify future failures, defects and problems
- High flexibility and motivation to succeed

- Knowledge of general network communications / IT systems (i.e. LAN's, WAN's, etc) and troubleshooting tools
