Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals, Inc. is a high-precision, value added processor of Nickel Alloys, Titanium Alloys, Cobalt Alloys, Niobium, Tantalum, and Stainless Steels for a wide range of difficult-to-manufacture, niche-market applications such as aerospace jet engine seals, nuclear reactor fuel cages, heart pacemaker containers, photo-voltaic cell wire and substrate, computer chip substrate, chemical processing tower components, automotive airbag burst disks, automotive oxygen sensors, medical catheters, and cell phone key pads. The material is made in the forms of precision strip and Ultralite foil, shaped (profiled) wire, and precision flat wire in micro dimensions.

This company was established in 1924, is a Connecticut company, and is privately held. It has 14 wholly owned subsidiaries located in the US, Mexico, Canada, Ireland, Austria, Hong Kong, and China and employs some 650 people worldwide. The home office and principal technology center are in Connecticut.

Position Overview:

Ulbrich Precision Flat Wire seeks a Solar Applications Engineer for our South Carolina facility.

Responsibilities: 

In this position, you will develop engineering solutions for customers and prospective photovoltaic solar customers who require metal conductors for their modules. This will be accomplished by ensuring that existing products are customized for optimal use in each customer's specific application. You will also develop metal conductor solutions for new solar applications and work directly with end users, manufacturing operations and direct/indirect sales people to assure the best possible product for each application. Travel could range from 15-30%.

Qualifications: 

  • Requires a BS Degree in Engineering, Material Science or related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering role.
  • Metals experience in solar or copper/soldering industry desired but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills a must.
