Description

Founded by river and native fish protection organization Pacific Rivers in 2007, Salmon-Safe is an Oregon-based nonprofit devoted to inspiring the restoration of agricultural and urban watersheds so that salmon can thrive.

Salmon-Safe works with more than 900 landowners across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and British Columbia to promote water quality protection and wildlife habitat conservation. Certified projects include many of the region’s highest profile urban sites ranging from Nike’s World Headquarters campus to Seattle-area projects with Vulcan, Expedia, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and many others.

Background

Salmon-Safe, a leading regional environmental certification nonprofit, seeks a full-time Puget Sound manager to guide the expansion of Salmon-Safe’s urban work in the Puget Sound region. Skills relating to green building, urban site development, environmental science and project management are required. This position will be based in Seattle with occasional travel around the Puget Sound region and to Portland, OR (Salmon-Safe headquarters).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development

  • Recruit and cultivate relationships with individuals and organizations to become Salmon-Safe certification and/or accreditation candidates to meet urban program expansion goals in Puget Sound. This includes identifying new prospects for Salmon-Safe, qualifying and prioritizing prospects, making presentations, and securing candidate commitment.
  • Develop and engage networks in the region to build and maintain a healthy pipeline of prospects.
  • Develop content for project proposals, and partner with the Executive and Certification Directors on all Puget Sound-related business development efforts.

Program Management

  • Track and manage regional urban project activity in collaboration with the Certification Director to ensure timely and effective program delivery.
  • Serve as a resource regarding standards for Puget Sound certification and accreditation candidates.
  • Deliver training to regional partners as necessary.
  • Manage regional program outcome reporting for foundation and government funders and other key stakeholders.

Regional Leadership

  • Cultivate and manage Salmon-Safe nonprofit, government, and other strategic alliances in the Puget Sound region.
  • Identify and secure grants and sponsorships to support regional program implementation in collaboration with Executive Director.
  • Collaborate closely with Salmon-Safe staff to develop new regional program initiatives and business plans in Puget Sound.
  • Plan and manage Salmon-Safe events in Puget Sound.
  • Represent Salmon-Safe to Puget Sound media and in forums to enhance the organization’s brand.

EDUCATION, TRAINING REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field of study related to one or more of the following specialties:
    • Architecture (architecture, landscape architecture)
    • Engineering (civil)
    • Business (sustainability focus)
    • Planning (environmental planning, urban design)
    • Environmental Science (ecology, biology, environmental management)
    • Construction Management
  • Minimum 5 years progressively responsible and successful project management and program delivery experience
  • Proficiency in web-based project management tools
  • Knowledge of the Puget Sound green building and development market
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed, entrepreneurial environment
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to Salmon-Safe conservation mission
  • Competency in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion principles and practice

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include paid time off, healthcare and dental, and retirement contribution.
