The Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) is the national non-profit, non-partisan association of state and territorial environmental leaders.  The purpose of ECOS is to improve the environmental capabilities of state environmental agencies and their leaders to protect and improve human health and the environment of the United States. 

To facilitate that, staff work with state environmental directors to champion the role of states, provide for the exchange of ideas, foster cooperation and coordination, and articulate state positions to federal agencies, Congress, and the public.

Position Overview:

ECOS is accepting applications for a project manager to work on projects related to the Toxics Release Inventory and the National Environmental Information Exchange Network (Exchange Network). 

The project manager works with state environmental directors and their staff, other ECOS staff, and representatives of federal agencies to support the association's work related to the Toxics Release Inventory and the Exchange Network. 

Responsibilities:

  • To support ECOS' work with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency related to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) including:
  1. Organizing the annual TRI National Training Conferences
  2. Developing new online resources for TRI outreach
  3. Other appropriate work under grant
  • To support ECOS' work with States, tribes, and U.S. EPA related to the Exchange Network including:
  1. Developing and maintaining resources for the Exchange Network website
  2. Assisting with the organization of the annual Exchange Network National Meeting
  3. Providing staff support to the Exchange Network Operations Board and its work groups
  • To work with grantors, members, and senior staff to develop proposals for additional projects in the future and to seek and obtain funding for these proposals.
  • To work with state agency directors and their staff, federal agency representatives, and others to achieve the goals and deliverables of grants
  • To work with senior staff to manage grants.
  • To assist with other ECOS-wide projects as necessary.

Compensation: Salary for this position is dependent upon qualifications and ranges from $47,755 to $81,747.  Competitive benefits are also provided.

Qualifications:

Minimum:  

  • Graduate degree with at least 1 year experience in environmental area or 2 in other government-related work; or undergraduate degree with at least 4 years applicable experience.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently on project work and as a team member with colleagues on broader issues.
  • Ability to work on many projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks.

Other:

  • Experience working with the Environmental Protection Agency on environmental issues preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working with web developers a plus.
  • Direct experience in grants management preferred.
  • Experience working for a state environmental agency a plus.
