The Upper Valley Land Trust helps people conserve land. We engage people in the vision and process of land conservation and in the stewardship of conserved lands.
UVLT provides conservation leadership, tools and expertise to permanently protect the working farms, forested ridges, wildlife habitat, water resources, trails and scenic landscapes that surround residential areas and commercial centers and make the Upper Valley a truly special place to live. Our conservation projects secure the mixture of land uses so critical to the region's vitality and identity.
We work with local conservation commissions and volunteer groups to identify and prioritize land conservation opportunities. We provide technical assistance and conservation solutions for landowners. We steward permanent agreements that conserve key properties forever.
UVLT focuses its mission in 44 Vermont and New Hampshire towns in the upper Connecticut River valley. UVLT is a sponsor member of the Land Trust Alliance, an organization that promotes land conservation by providing advocacy and professional resources to over 1600 land trusts nationwide. UVLT has adopted LTA's Standards and Practices for land trust operations.
Position Overview:
The Programs Coordinator works with the President to develop and deliver activities, events and publications to engage and inform public awareness and build strong membership support of UVLT's mission. She/he organizes indoor and outdoor events, coordinates and supports volunteers, assists with communication through publications, direct mail, websites and media relations; and supports the President's work in donor relations and strategic planning. This position reports to the President and works collaboratively with fellow staff on all projects.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the President to develop and implement UVLT's annual work plan for communications and outreach and donor relations.
- Coordinate public programs including events on conserved lands, social and educational gatherings, activities for members and benefit events. Develop agendas and budgets, identify audiences and guest lists and manage program logistics. Evaluate and report program outcomes.
- Represent UVLT and provide staffing for public events and activities; participate in outreach initiatives through direct written or personal outreach.
- Assist with the development of written communications and fundraising materials, including newsletters, brochures, letters, PowerPoint presentations, press releases and grant proposals.
- Coordinate the development and distribution of promotional materials, including posters, displays and calendar announcements, e-news and web-based communications and links. Coordinate regular updates to UVLT's website.
- Recruit, support, train, and supervise volunteers and provide appropriate recognition and leadership opportunities for volunteers.
- With the President, support the engagement of UVLT's Trustees and staff in fundraising and donor stewardship, strategic planning, communications and marketing.
Qualifications:
The Programs Coordinator will be confident, organized, and able to work independently, but will enjoy working in collaboration with others to deliver engaging and informative programs. She/he must possess strong writing, speaking and critical thinking skills. Proficiency with communications tools and office technology including Microsoft Office and Adobe software is essential. Experience delivering nonprofit outreach and education programs and/or managing volunteers is strongly preferred. A background in land conservation, environmental education or community development is desirable; outdoor skills and familiarity with the Upper Valley will be helpful.
This is a fulltime, hourly position. Some evening and weekend work and travel throughout the Upper Valley region will be required.
Compensation: Upper 20's/low 30's with benefits.
