Description
ecoPartners specializes in building successful ecological carbon offset projects. We provide technical services to forest owners, fund managers and certification bodies under various project design standards including the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate Action Reserve (CAR), the Climate Community and Biodiversity Alliance (CCB) and the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). Our core services are biometrics, statistics and remote-sensing of forested ecosystems.
Position Overview:
ecoPartners is hiring for 2 new part time positions in our downtown Berkeley office, a short walk from the UC Berkeley and Berkeley City College campuses. Tenure of these positions is from 6 months to a year, with the possibility of continued long term employment. We expect 10 to 20 hours of work per week per position; most work will take place in our Berkeley office, with the opportunity to occasionally work flexible hours outside the office.
Work involves analyzing deforestation using ArcMap, acquiring historical satellite imagery, compiling data for analysis, documenting work products and assisting with project development. This is an ideal opportunity for current students, but all applicants will be given equal consideration despite enrollment status. The expected start date is the first week of April 2011.
Qualifications:
- Are upper division (junior or senior) college students or recent college graduates (associates degree or higher) with an interest in natural resources, forestry, or environmental studies
- Have introductory level experience using ESRITM ArcMap (coursework and/or hands on experience)
- Have good communication skills, including oral and written
- Are proficient in Excel and Word
- Have good time management and self management skills; able to take direction and work independently to reach identified goals on a set timeline
- Are comfortable with correspondence, email, and interpersonal interactions in a business environment
Compensation: Compensation is $12/hr
