The North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) is an international membership organization whose mission is to forge partnerships among citizens, scientists and professionals to foster the management and protection of lakes and reservoirs.
Since 1980, NALMS has worked to advance the science and practice of lake management, promote continuing education of lake management professionals, and advocate for lake management policy.
NALMS activities in the service of its mission include:
- Quarterly publication of a highly respected scientific journal and magazine,
- Managing grants focused on public outreach and education,
- Running a professional certification program,
- Hosting an annual international symposium,
- Cosponsoring regional conferences,
- Developing position statements relating to lake issues,
- and serving the needs of its diverse membership, which includes scientists, regulatory agency personnel, consultants, and lake users and property owners, as well as corporate, nonprofit and affiliate organizational members.
NALMS currently has nearly 1,500 individual and 130 organizational members in the U.S., Canada and worldwide.
Responsibilities:
This is an entry-level position expected to evolve to a position of greater responsibility as the membership and resource bases of NALMS are expanded.
The primary objectives of the Membership Services Coordinator position is:
- To ensure member expectations are met or exceeded through effective communication of information, timely order processing, and prompt resolution of member issues;
- To assist the Executive Director in implementing membership recruitment and retention plans;
- And to provide administrative support for management and programs, including a professional certification program and the Annual International NALMS Symposium.
This role has significant interaction with members, prospective members, staff, board members and volunteers. Limited travel required.
General Qualifications:
NALMS seeks an individual with interest, knowledge and/or training in an environmental discipline, strong computer and interpersonal skills, and a customer service focus, who desires a career in nonprofit organization management.
Applicants should also have experience in membership development, marketing, and/or conference planning. The successful candidate must work in Madison at the NALMS office; any relocation costs must be covered by the successful candidate.
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in an environmental or marketing/communications discipline
Experience:
- Experience in membership development, marketing, communications, and/or conference planning experience, preferably with a nonprofit membership organization
- Knowledge of membership association business processes
Compensation: Salary: Commensurate with experience, education and other qualifications; ranges from $32,000 - $35,000
