Position Overview
The Jane Goodall Institute is currently seeking a Manager, Donor Relations and Stewardship. This role creates, develops, executes and analyzes the results of a comprehensive direct mail, email and stewardship plan to engage, retain and upgrade current donors.
S/he will lead all middle donor cultivation, including the creation and implementation of donor travel programs, giving circle premiums, upgrade appeals, membership, affiliation and rewards program material.
S/he manages all activities and details pertaining to donor travel opportunities including, but not limited to, the creation, marketing, and logistical preparation of all trips as well as the tracking and follow up for each donor (with the goal of securing follow up gifts). S/he will manage membership inquiries and steward current middle donors as well as continue to serve as a point of contact for general JGI membership.
Responsibilities
The Manager, Donor Relations and Stewardship, is responsible for creating and implementing a stewardship plan to support all JGI donors and to manage our middle donor ($1,000 to $10,000) Jane's Peak Society giving program.
The specific responsibilities of the position include:
- Design and implement programs and activities to identify, educate, cultivate, solicit and steward individual donors at the $1,000 - $10,000 level with an emphasis on maximizing revenue and donor retention. Creates and oversees donor benefit program.
- Leads efforts to develop and implement stewardship material for midlevel annual giving, including, annual gift acknowledgement letters, print pieces, emails, new donor packets, upgrade appeals and more to upgrade current donors and ensure full pipelines, including identifying donors for upgrade into the major gifts program.
Duties:
- The duties of the position are roughly divided between stewardship (60 percent) and communications (40 percent)
- Draft letters, emails, updates and other communications to engage with and support donors
- Develop and implement donor engagement activities like conference calls with field staff, webinars, videos, updates and other created opportunities for donor engagement
- Manage all aspects of travel program creation. Including, but not limited to: list management, invite design, travel logistics, vendor management, merchandise fulfillment, contract preparation, etc.
- Provide oversight to donor acknowledgement program and processes, ensuring that donors are acknowledged and recognized in a timely, personalized manner and commensurate with their level of giving.
- Services middle donor and general JGI membership inquiries by phone, mail and email. Makes thank you calls to middle donors.
- Maintains and updates donor records in Raiser's Edge to reflect all activities and interactions and to track stewardship activities.
- Helps coordinate and oversee activities of department interns, performs prospect research on transitional donors, edits grant/major gift proposals, collaborates with multiple departments, other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years managing donor stewardship
- Strong writing and verbal communications skills
- Direct experience engaging with donors
- Experience managing special events and travel programs
- The ability to collaborate with diverse coworkers in complex and high pressure situations
Work Environment
The employee will be working in JGI's US headquarters in Vienna, Virginia, close to the Spring Hill Road Washington, DC metro rail station on the Silver Line.
