Overview
The Manager, Product Advocacy Team position is responsible for staffing groups and implementing advocacy and product stewardship strategies that advance positive science-based positions for the polyurethanes and polycarbonate/BPA industries. This includes the day-to-day management of member groups charged with product stewardship, advocacy and outreach on environment, health, and safety issues. The position is also responsible for collaborating with related industry groups within each value chain, related internal stakeholders, as well as a wide variety of allied organizations and government representatives. This position reports to the Senior Director, Product Advocacy Team.
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for staffing groups and implementing advocacy and product stewardship strategies that advance positive science-based positions for the polyurethanes and polycarbonate/BPA industries. This includes the day-to-day management of member groups charged with product stewardship, advocacy and outreach on environment, health, and safety issues. The position is also responsible for collaborating with related industry groups within each value chain, related internal stakeholders, as well as a wide variety of allied organizations and government representatives. This position reports to the Senior Director, Product Advocacy Team.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct the daily activities and programs of Center for the Polyurethanes (CPI) Product Stewardship Committee and the PC BPA North American Team employing consensus building skills when needed.
- Develop a technical understanding of the polyurethane and polycarbonate/BPA industry to lead science-based advocacy strategies and product stewardship activities that amplify membership value.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of environmental, health and safety regulations and legislation affecting polyurethane and BPA/polycarbonate markets.
- Build/maintain coalitions and strategic partnerships with stakeholders including regional and global value chain organizations, regulatory authorities, and ACC staff to strengthen valuable relationships, address emerging industry issues, and align product stewardship and communication resources. Manage and implement the strategy driving ACC’s 5-year OSHA Alliance.
- Represent the Product Advocacy Team at industry or trade association meetings, conferences and in relevant regulatory and legislative arenas.
- Lead group meetings and prepare conference call agendas, meeting materials, meeting records, financial reports/requests.
- Manage the research and other science-based activities that support advocacy priorities and product stewardship resources including the update/maintenance of guidance documents, tools, and resources.
- Manage and maintain communications programs, including developing content for the multiple websites, reviewing external digital communication activities, and working with ACC communications staff and consultants to align messaging and resources based on member feedback.

Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years professional experience, preferably in an industrial product safety, regulatory, trade association or government relations environment.
- Working knowledge of environment, health and safety regulations and statutes as well as the legislative and regulatory processes on both the federal and state levels.
- Experience leading projects to a conclusion and project teams using consensus-building skills to identify the common ground within seemingly divergent viewpoints
- Ability to work independently on a variety of complex issues while remaining a contributing member of a larger team.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and lead multiple issues, projects, tasks, and information/requests, as well as use independent judgment in evaluating situations/issues.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and experience working with various technologies.
- Ability to travel
Preferred
- Advanced degree in a related environment, health, and safety field
- Experience with the regulatory and guidance development process, developing and writing regulatory comments, position papers and/or other written responses to government initiated public policy positions
