Synapse Energy Economics is a research and consulting firm specializing in energy, economic, and environmental topics, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Synapse specializes in analysis of economic and environmental policies that lead to sustainable, efficient, and equitable energy use. We provide research, testimony, white papers, reports, and regulatory support to a wide variety of clients, including state and federal agencies and environmental organizations.
Position Overview:
Synapse is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team in a newly created information infrastructure and IT support position. The primary responsibilities of this position will include assisting in the on-going development and upkeep of our new SharePoint-based intranet; the successful applicant will also assist in the refresh and upkeep of Synapse's external website. Responsibilities also include providing basic helpdesk support to staff members (in coordination with our IT service provider), and contributing to various other projects typical of a small-company environment.
In addition to the skills and experience to thoroughly learn the SharePoint software, the successful applicant must have a sense of design, a thorough appreciation of the user experience, the ability to understand and implement user suggestions and requests through SharePoint, the initiative to recommend and make ongoing improvements to Synapse's IT applications, and excellent communication skills.
The successful candidate would be expected to have proficiency in MS Office and a working knowledge of databases, HTML, content management systems, and current PC and MAC Operating Systems. Previous experience with SharePoint is a strong plus, but is not necessarily required for this position. Interest in and commitment to the principles of environmental sustainability is also a strong plus.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years' experience with database, interface design, and/or web design
- Extensive experience with basic PC hardware, Windows system, and application software and networks; Macintosh experience a plus
- A high level of fluency with software applications, such as databases, websites, spreadsheets, and word processing software
- Excellent communication skills, and user-friendly design capabilities
