Building on decades of experience in philanthropy and government, including in California, the US, and internationally, and in the non-profit, government, and private sectors, we provide customized support to clients committed to addressing the climate crisis. 

The Hua Nani team brings versatility in skills and in-depth knowledge across sectors, working with a range of climate funders, policy think-tanks, communication strategists, clean tech startups, state and local governments, and international climate actors including national governments. We are a Hawai’i-based firm working  with clients across international time zones.

Description

HNP is seeking a full-time Manager to join our team. The position will be focused on leading client-based climate and energy policy projects in close coordination with HNP’s leadership. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing 3-4 client projects and working directly with clients and HNP leadership. The ideal candidate will have 3-5+ years of experience in climate and/or energy policy at the state level. The candidate must have experience managing concurrent project deadlines, a can-do attitude for problem-solving, strong written and verbal communication skills, and be highly collaborative, proactive, detail-oriented, and mission-driven. The ideal candidate should thrive in a fast-paced, remote work environment. Some travel will be required for this position. We will only consider applications on a full-time salaried basis.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary internal manager for the development of project strategies and client deliverables, such as reports, presentations, or other project-related needs
  • Manage project workstreams, contribute to the development of project strategies and oversee project tasks and timelines
  • Author white papers, reports, policy briefs, and communications materials aimed at external audiences; draft internal decision memos, policy documents, testimony, talking points; contribute to funding proposals and reports 
  • Interact frequently with clients, including participating in meetings, presentations, and discussions
  • Provide HNP clients with policy advice and guidance, both verbally and in writing, including advising clients and the HNP leadership team 
  • Support business development efforts, including providing input on client proposals and participating in meetings with prospective clients
  • Contribute strategic insights and actionable recommendations to help advance business outcomes for HNP’s clients  
  • Coordinate efforts of Principals, staff, and consultants across multiple programs; collaborate seamlessly with external partners critical to programmatic success 
  • Represent HNP in engagement with state officials and staff, representatives from environmental and climate agencies, philanthropies, NGO and community partners, and other stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, political science, public policy, engineering, data science, or environmental science. Advanced degree in public policy or environmental science/ studies/policy preferred
  • 3-5+ years experience in climate and/or energy policy at the state or federal levels 
  • Strong relationships in climate and energy policy space, including with NGOs, policymakers, and philanthropies
  • Demonstrated ability to make strategic connections between external partners and contribute key insights
  • Exemplary research and data analysis skills with the ability to prepare accurate reports 
  • Ability to help shape abstract/conceptual client needs into clear, concrete project deliverables with a can-do attitude toward problem-solving
  • Strong familiarity with the broad climate policy landscape, particularly at the state level (legislative, budget process, state agencies) and meaningful expertise in several energy or climate policy areas 
  • Passion for addressing environmental issues 
  • Exceptional ability to draft concise and clear written products in multiple formats and lengths
  • Strong work ethic, self-starter, and detail-oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills
  • High proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office programs
  • U.S. Work Authorization is required

Compensation

  • Salary is $90,000 - $90,000 per year.
