High Production Organic Garden

Treebones opened its doors in November of 2004 and enjoyed immediate favorable media attention beyond what we could have imagined. We are privileged to live on site with our now grown children – as well as 20 plus employees; forming a special and unique live/work experience. In various and many ways we all contribute time, talent and treasure to the wonderful, though fragile, community of Big Sur that we’re proud to call home.

Having had the amazing opportunity of watching our dream become a reality, we continue to count our blessings daily as we welcome all those who choose to include Treebones in their Big Sur experience.

Position Overview

Development of an ongoing, perpetual garden schedule and plan now that our garden has matured into us knowing ‘what works best’ ....so this can be shared and perpetuated no matter ‘who’ is in charge...

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, perpetuate and oversight of compost system including worm composting
• Training of ‘auxillary workers – harvesters'
• Seed propagation
• Soil amendment & propagation
• Weeding
• Daily Harvesting
• Tree care (staking, fertilizing)
• Effectively incorporate newly built green house
• Pest (bugs, birds, rodents) Prevention
• Mulching, cover crops
• Cultivating all plants
• General garden oversight and repair planning
• Watering system (keep the entire system up and running this means keeping the timers working, the lines from calcification etc)
• Chickens – oversight of their well being, their daily feeding and watering and daily collection of eggs and collection of poop for garden soil building
• Chicken Annex – watch this shed where their food is stored, keep it clean, free from rodents, order of chicken food etc
• events – coordinate any special visits or events in the garden to increase guest awareness
• restaurant collaboration – communicate daily /weekly with chef so kitchen knows ‘what is growing? how much we have?’
• local purveyor collaboration – we work with a local farmer “Spruce Creek Orchard” and he provides a list of vegetables we do not grow sine they do better in his eco climate
• Supplies and equipment – keep the tool shed organized, the tools stored and organized and equipment working

Qualifications

• We are interested in someone with a proven track record of high yield. We are less interested in variety of things grown and more so want to find someone willing to stick with the proven 'winners' that grow well here and can be most utilized by our Kitchen
• Do not apply if you want to 'dabble' with many things...
• Apply is you have had success with repetitive, productive, year round harvest

Compensation: $15.00 /hour
