The Alliance to Save Energy is seeking a full-time Senior Program Associate to implement the California Green Campus Program out of its Oakland, CA office. The Green Campus Program is a student-driven energy efficiency and conservation initiative serving University of California and California State University Campuses throughout the state. The Green Campus Program employs and manages paid student interns on each participating campus, these interns develop and implement programs that foster energy efficient behaviors, and identify operations changes and retrofit opportunities on their campuses.

We are seeking an individual who is willing to make a commitment to implementing and further developing the Green Campus Program. The Senior Program Associate manages day-to-day program tasks of the Green Campus Program and makes a significant contribution to the program's strategic direction.

Candidates should have a good eye for detail but also be capable of seeing the bigger picture. In addition the Senior Program Associate must have exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills, and public speaking and meeting facilitation experience are essential. Candidates who have experience working for campus sustainability initiatives will be strongly favored and a familiarity with energy efficiency is a definite plus. Lastly, candidates should be self-starters who can juggle multiple tasks with a minimum of supervision and guidance. 

Head-quartered in Washington, DC, the non-profit Alliance to Save Energy promotes energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment, and greater energy security. The Alliance's Oakland, California field office implements two exciting programs, Green Campus (college level) and Green Schools (K-12). 

The Senior Program Associate will work in the Alliance to Save Energy's California Field Office, located in downtown Oakland, with a small, collegial, and busy team of environmental education professionals. 

Specific Program Associate duties include: 

Management of Green Campus Intern Teams on four campuses (approx. 40%)

* Assist interns with project development and implementation, track interns' progress: o Ensure interns understand their responsibilities and complete program deliverables in a timely fashion.
o Stimulate communication between campuses
o Assist interns in conducting press outreach
o Facilitate intern partnerships with key administrators, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders
* Recruit, interview, hire, and orient new Green Campus Interns 
* Visit campuses approximately once every six weeks
* Conduct weekly conference calls with intern teams Program Reporting (approx. 10%) 
* Compile, write, and edit narrative monthly reports (and relevant attachments) to program funders.

Special Event Planning/ Conference Presentations (approx. 15%) 

* Plan and coordinate program-wide Green Campus functions
* Organize workshops and training sessions to support Green Campus Intern development
* Deliver and help to plan Green Campus conference presentations Program Development/Innovation (approx. 10%)
* Keep abreast of developments in state and national energy policy/programs and network with others in the energy efficiency field.
* Identify opportunities to add value to the Green Campus Program and, where appropriate, develop projects in collaboration with other energy efficiency and environmental programs.
* Solicit feedback from interns, program stakeholders, and colleagues to identify potential improvements to Green Campus implementation model.

Administrative Responsibilities (approx. 15%)

* Assist Green Campus Interns in purchasing items for program activities
* Review and approve Intern timesheets 
* Assist in budget creation and expense tracking Team Coordination (approx. 10%) 
* Coordinate with ASE staff and subcontractors to ensure that the program meets its objectives and the implementation team functions smoothly, including planning and facilitating regular team meetings. 

Job qualifications: 

- At a minimum, a Bachelor's degree
- Demonstrated project management skills and dedication to environmental causes
- 1-2 years professional experience (preference given to candidates with campus organizing and non-profit experience) 

Required:

- Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task
- Excellent communication/people skills
- Strong budget management skills
- Proficient computer skills, including Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint
- Exceptionally strong writing ability, willingness to copy-edit
- Strong Public speaking ability
- Background/ interest in energy efficiency in particular and sustainability in general
- Tolerance for ambiguity and willingness to learn and apply new concepts and skills
- Willingness to travel

Other skills that would be a plus: Web/ graphic design experience; Familiarity with green building concepts / LEED AP.
