Grants Manager

Position Overview

Environmental Advocates of New York seeks applicants for the position of Grants Manager (Manager). The Manager is a member of Environmental Advocates’ team that focuses on raising the resources to ensure our policy change campaigns for clean water; healthful air and sustainable communities are successful.

The Grant Manager (Manager) is a full-time position that reports to the Executive Director. This position develops, sustains and manages the organization’s relationships with private foundations.

The Manager has lead responsibility to coordinate foundation engagement with the Executive Director, program staff, the Director of Individual Giving and the Director of Membership. Like all staff, the Manager shall also be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

The Manager should have a proven track record of managing organizational interactions with private foundations and their program staff.

Specific Responsibilities

The Manager oversees the organization’s interaction with private foundations. The Manager has the primary responsibility for:

• Developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization's mission and programs to potential funders;
• Assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters of inquiry, presentations, and full proposals;
• Establishing and maintaining personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts and program officers;
• Researching and cultivating foundation prospects;
• Acquiring and maintaining a sound knowledge of EANY’s mission and goals, and uses that knowledge and understanding to better comprehend all projects and programs for which grants will be sought and to recommend the seeking of grants; and
• Working with policy staff to ensure deliverables are met, required reports are filed and renewals grants are requested.

Qualifications

Skills/Experience

• Minimum 3 years' experience with grant writing for nonprofit organizations (for candidate with more than 5 years of experience, the position could be structured as a part-time position if that is what meets mutual interests);
• Individual who is passionate about environmental protection and motivated to involve others;
• Excellent written and oral communications skills including the ability to craft clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals;
• Strategic thinking, research and the ability to identify funding opportunities;
• Familiarity and proficiency with fundraising database software or relational databases, and fundraising reporting (DonorPerfect/DonorPerfect Online a plus);
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
• Experience working for nonprofits, preferably policy-focused or advocacy organizations; and
• Licensed driver with the ability to travel.
