Position Overview

The Governance and Internal Communications team is responsible for effective internal communications between employees in all Greenpeace offices throughout the United States and for liaising with the board of directors for both Greenpeace, Inc. and Greenpeace Fund, Inc. It also facilitates the sharing of information with international Greenpeace offices via electronic, video and print communications in a way that furthers a culture of learning and creativity.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, responsible, and detail-oriented intern with strong writing and editing skills to assist in the central role that this team plays at the organization.

Being part of the Governance and Internal Communications team will give interns the unique opportunity to be involved with all parts of the organization, which can provide a useful overall insight into the inner workings of Greenpeace. This position is a great opportunity for anybody interested in learning more about non-profit management, governance, and organizational communication. 

Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate the writing and editing of Greenpeace's weekly internal newsletter, The Witness
  • Assist in compiling materials and prepping for board meetings
  • Research and compile data into spreadsheets
  • Taking notes at staff meetings
  • Planning receptions and other office functions
  • Updating and editing our internal website
  • Administrative tasks assigned by the Executive Director, the Chief Operating Officer, or their assistants

Skills You May Learn and Practice: 

  • Writing newsletters
  • Event planning
  • Note taking during meetings
  • Using wiki sites
  • Understanding the roles of the various sections of a large non-profit organization 

Qualifications 

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage various tasks with competing deadlines
  • Ability to work in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter and self-motivated
