Your Opportunity
An opportunity is available for a GIS Technician with 0-5 years of experience. As a GIS Technician with Stantec you will provide technical support to a multidisciplinary team to deliver solutions to our internal and external clients using ESRI Desktop, ArcGIS Online, or Enterprise environment. As a GIS Technician with Stantec you will provide technical support which includes mapping applications, spatial analysis, and map production; as well as project coordination and support for assigned projects. This position is in the office with minimal to no field visits. Specialized training will be provided to the successful applicant.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Creating maps and performing a wide range of geospatial analyses in support of environmental permitting, environmental field surveys, and construction compliance for a variety of power-related projects, including, but not limited to, high voltage transmission lines, wind and solar energy facilities, transportation infrastructure and oil and gas pipelines.
- Adhering to established cartographic standards and Quality Assurance / Quality Control processes.
- Managing a wide variety of project-specific and reference geospatial data in accordance with defined data management standards.
- Supporting geospatial field data collection efforts. Typical collected features include wetlands, waterways and rare, threatened, or endangered species occurrences or habitats.
- Collaborating with existing GIS staff members working in other Stantec offices.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Knowledge and experience working with Esri ArcGIS
- Familiarity with ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps for ArcGIS, Survey123 for ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Trimble Pathfinder Office and Trimble TerraSync a plus.
- Knowledge of Python and other GIS Programming language is desirable but not a must
- Demonstrates a vast knowledge of cartography and at least some understanding of graphic design.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Ability to meet project deadlines and understand how assigned tasks relate to project goals.
- Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
- Ability to perform work accurately in a detail-oriented environment
- Exceptional visual, written, and verbal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong working proficiency with the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office products
- Significant technical knowledge and awareness to be able to recognize when technical problems are developing, and the ability take corrective actions to solve them using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Valid state driver’s license
Education and Experience
- Bachelors’ degree in life Geography, Geoscience, Environmental Science, or related field with demonstrated GIS training or coursework.
- Experience providing GIS services in support of compliance or environmental permitting is considered a strong plus.
