Are you looking for an opportunity to lead a small organization and have a big impact on the environment throughout the state of Oregon and beyond? EarthShare Oregon (ESOR) wants to hire a new executive director.
ESOR provides a convenient way for Oregonians to support conservation and healthy communities. ESOR is a federation of 70 leading non-profit environmental groups working to protect quality of life in Oregon where more than half the groups are based. Through workplace giving campaigns at about 100 public and private organizations in Oregon, ESOR reaches donors and volunteers to support our member environmental groups. Since our founding in 1989, we have raised nearly $11 million for conservation. This funding supports projects that:
- Keep people healthy
- Reduce global warming and its effects
- Preserve places for wildlife
ESOR is an independent 501(c)3 organization working statewide with 4 staff in Portland, and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors representing environmental groups and local businesses.
Position Overview:
We seek a leader who will help the organization increase annual campaign revenue to $1 million through increased visibility, new campaigns, and donor development while continuing to improve efficiency of operations.
The Executive Director is responsible for overall operations, marketing, programs and financial health of the organization. Guided by a strategic plan, the Executive Director leads the organization to achieve its mission and goals.
The new ESOR Executive Director will be someone who is a:
- Leader, outgoing and capable of running the show
- Strategic thinker with a history of successful implementation
- Networker, able to identify and pursue new business opportunities
- Fundraiser who enjoys asking for money
- Communicator, able to work with a board, staff, business & government leaders, and nonprofits
- Thinker, comfortable with complex financial processing
- Committed environmentalist, personally passionate about the issues member groups' address
Responsibilities:
New Business Development:
- Annually start new workplace giving campaigns at businesses throughout Oregon.
- Develop strategic action plans to attract new business. Cultivate relationships to close deals.
- Work in coordination with board members, committees, member group staff and other federation partners to further business development efforts.
Fundraising:
- Oversees workplace fundraising efforts for member groups, including major donor cultivation and corporate matching gifts.
- Conduct ESOR operations fundraising efforts including sponsorships, events, foundation grants, corporate gifts, etc.
Workplace Campaign Development:
- Assure each partner's campaign needs are fully met. Build strategies to retain business partners.
- Assure that all materials and communications are prepared in advance of campaigns and content is effectively persuasive.
- Develop marketing and communications strategies to attract new donors.
Member Relations:
- Build cooperative relationships with staff and boards at member organizations.
- Assure accurate marketing messages for groups, and that members comply with ESOR policy.
Financial Management and Budgeting:
- Assure ethical financial management, timely production of financial statements, public accountability and that legal obligations are met.
- Create annual budget for approval by board of directors.
Organizational Management:
- With board of directors, develop strategic plan that positions ESOR as a key player in the business and philanthropic communities in Oregon.
- Maintain healthy relationships with EarthShare national, state affiliates and local workplace fundraising colleagues.
- Supervise and direct staff in Portland and other Oregon cities. Assure performance of their duties and evaluate annually.
Marketing and Communications:
- Serve as the public spokesperson.
- Develop marketing plans to assure consistent messaging, effective placement of materials and timely delivery.
Qualifications:
- Experience in business development, management, finance, and administration (with particular emphasis in non-profit arena desired).
- Experience working effectively with wide range of people in the business and philanthropic communities as well as grassroots environmental activists.
- Proven fundraising skills with an understanding of cultivation and stewardship of donors
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and understanding of marketing concepts.
- Proven ability to plan and implement comprehensive, goal-oriented programs based on strategic directions.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a board of directors in shaping an organization's strategies and policies.
- Care and attention to detail and strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Comfort with complex financial processing.
Compensation: $50,000 - $60,000 with good benefit package.
